alex pov

i look around, taking a drink of the bottle of jack daniels being passed around. diesel and ani were trying to get kwite to flip a shot glass on his ass,  kappa was still "taking a shit", and kate was out on the balcony. brandon and henry were on a trip to the gas station around the corner for snacks. i stand up, making my way out to the balcony with a grip on my drink. i was on my way to shitfaced, no doubt.

I open the glass door, and kate jumps a little. "oh, hey." she said, looking me up and down.

"hey."

we stood there in silence like she expected me to say something. "so..."

"so." I said, putting down my bottle on the ledge. "you have it out for my girlfriend."

"and she had it out for me first." kate crosses her arms. god, how was I ever in love with this chick? she really had such an ugly heart. "why else would she randomly pick you? show interest in you? right after we broke up. she's known brandon for longer. they're closer."

"i don't know, maybe because when you cheated on me she wanted to be there for me. you know, like a good person." i look to her, scrunching my eyebrows. "people fall in love. and it wasnt right after we broke up. she didn't calculate shit."

"you wanna know the truth about her alex? she uses people. she used her first ex for drugs, and kappa for sex. and that's all she's ever gonna be."

kate was about to go inside. I close my eyes tightly. "wait." I say. she stops. "what happened with her and kappa?"

she turns back. she comes back over and we look off the ledge.

"ani introduced me, kappa and her. they immediately hit it off, but she was still on drugs, so he made it his mission to help her. with stuff only maybe me and brandon even knew about. and he did help her. a lot. she got clean partially because of his influence in her life. and with her parents & brandon and I pushing her, she got better. but she got attached to kappa."

"attached?"

"she loved him. a lot. he didnt love her as much but he still cared about her. and every time her parents went on a business trip to where he was, she would go just to see him. & you know. do stuff with him. then, he broke it off on good terms. the rest is history."

"and she never told me."

"she swore off dating after that. when brandon asked her out the first time last year she totally shut down. and you know who was there for her? me.  only me. jess didn't know why she was so off. I did. I was her best friend alex. I was."

I look to her and the puzzle pieces click. "when she started hanging out with us more, online & in person... you got jealous because she came to us and not you."

"well that's fucking stupid."

"and true, isn't it?" i smirk. "you got jealous she was so happy."

"i wouldn't be jealous of that slut if you paid me." she went inside, slamming the door.
