chloe pov

"why is she here?" I scrunch my eyes. of course. the day kappa and pyro get here is the day kate decides to tag along. sweet.

"well, uh, about that-" kwite starts to explain. I see kappa get off the plane and I see a really weird sight. I see katelynne run past us and jump into kappa's arms.

"no. fucking. way." alex raises his eyebrows as kappa & kate kiss. okay. I did not see that one coming.

"hey chloe, funny seeing you around here." I hear a voice behind me. one that hasn't been here with us for a month of summer. one that said he couldnt make it.

I turn around and see aksel and the weird image of kappa and kate fades. I immediately run up to aksel and him him, squeezing the everloving shit out of him. "I thought you were helping your mom over the summer?"

"yeah, well, I got off the hook for a month before I get ready for school." he says into my shoulder. he pulls back to hug alex, nearly lifting him off the ground. we all congregate back to say our hellos to kappa waiting for pyro. alex takes my hand.

"sooo... you and kate?" alex brings up awkwardly.

"uh, yeah." kappa says. "what about it?"

"nothing." alex says. his grip on my hand tightens. it felt reassuring.

alex pov

we were all hanging out in kappa's hotel room, drinking & talking and playing an on/off game of truth or dare. chloe has been weirdly protective of me all night; I don't mind though. she isn't scared of kate, but kate has the capability to fuck her shit up little at a time. but I also have the capability to deck her in the face, so... oops.

chloe pulls me aside and onto the balcony, taking another sip from a blue solo cup. "alex, we need to talk."

uh oh. can my mind stop for literally one minute? she's not gonna break up with you, idiot, she loves you. "i think its time you know some parts of my past I haven't told you about."

"only if you're ready chlo. I dont need to know everything." okay, so I want to know more, but I dont wanna push her.

the air was warm as she took my hand. "a lot of things happened with two of my exes. stuff you barely know about. im sure ani or brandon have vaguely mentioned it but the only people who really know are kate, brandon & my parents." she looked away off the balcony. "and i thought if i tell you now, katelynne has nothing against me, right?"

"that shouldn't be the reason you tell me." i shake my head.

"well, its gonna be." she says, smiling. "to spare you all the stupid details of my dramatic back story, brandon helped me through a lot before i met you. and so did kate. kate introduced me to my first boyfriend. and things were perfect. until they weren't. and he got into drugs and did stupid shit and, uh, its a lot."

"you don't need to tell me more than you want. katelynne has nothing that'll drive me away from you. I promise."

"promise?" she said. i havent seen her this on edge since i met her. she went from chilled out with our friends to really fidgety and nervous out here.

"of course."

"there was a time when katelynne was my best friend." she looks inside to kate and kappa talking. "and that's always gonna stick with me. I'm always gonna miss her in a way.
