"Doesn't it creep you out that Cabello can't seem to stop staring at your girl?" The question hadn't been directed towards you, having been meant for your boyfriend, but you glanced up at his teammate and answered anyway.
"Why would it bother him? Cam-uh, Cabello is a nobody, and besides, I love Robbie in a way that nobody will ever love her," you replied, though your tone lacked the bite that a statement like the one you had just made would usually carry. Not only that, but Camila was far from the loser you had just claimed she was. Maybe she wasn't as high up on the social ladder as you and your football player boyfriend, but she was by no means a loser.
Robbie and his buddies just laughed and smirked at your response and within seconds their discussion was brought back to whatever mindless conversation they had been having. You were thankful that they all had such short attention spans, not really being in the mood for them to keep prying into why Camila couldn't seem to keep her eyes off of you.
Taking advantage of their distraction, you pulled your phone out of your bag and smiled when you saw several messages from the very girl that had almost caused a scene without even trying.
Mila: Does Bobby know that the shirt you're wearing is mine?
Mila: He doesn't even appreciate how good you look wearing it smhhhh flop!
Mila: Ew, one of his thumb looking friends just made eye contact with me. Should I be scared?😬
Me: Robbie*
Me: Should I tell him it's yours and that I picked it out from your closet because we couldn't find my shirt this morning? 🤭
You looked up in her direction slyly, laughing internally as her eyes widened almost comically when she read the last text you had sent. Her fingers rapidly moved across the screen of her phone, making you wait with slight anxiousness as you watched the three dots on your screen linger for what seemed like ages before she finished typing.
Mila: NOOOO!! Omfg he would literally kill me right here in front of everyone if he knew about us
Camila had slipped her phone away by the time you glanced back up after reading her reply and gone back to wearing and talking with her friends, so you didn't bother replying. It was probably better that way, considering Robbie had not so discreetly or gently wrapped his arm around your waist.
"Babe, let's go out to my car for a little bit of un," he whispered into your ear, making you cringe when you felt his hot and disgusting breath hit the side of your face. If it wasn't for the fact that his parents and yours were very close friends and in business tougher, you definitely would've dumped this oaf of a person a long time ago. IN fact, you never would've dated him in the first place.
"Are you crazy? I'm not risking getting in trouble just to suck you off in a car," you snapped. Some regret instantly hit you when you saw the annoyed expression on his face, so you quickly backtracked to avoid him potentially losing his temper.
"I mean, maybe if you have a little bit of patience we can do that and more when you're done with practice, okay?," you said with a smile. That seemed to satisfy him for the moment but it left you with an empty feeling, knowing that you had just promised him something you absolutely hated doing.
Quickly excusing yourself, you rushed out of the cafeteria managing to very discreetly brush against Camila with your bag in hopes that she would get the message and follow you.
When you got to the barely used classroom that had become your go to spot for meeting up with Camila during school hours, you not had to wait for a few short minutes before Camila showed up. She quietly shut the door before turning to look at you with that stupid lopsided smile that made your heart do a Thing™."What's up mi novia secreto? Tired of your ugly ass boyfriend slobbering all over your sweet little neck and need me to remind you what it's like to be with a real lover?," she said so seriously that you were almost left speechless until you saw a glint of mischief in her eyes that you had grown to love.
The both of you laughed for a few moments before you cleared your throat and shook your head, wanting to get into the real reason why you asked her to join you in here.
"Uh, it's just, you know how you said that his friend made eye contact with you?" Camila nodded, waiting for you to continue. "Well, he pointed it out to Robbie. I quickly told them that I would never even be interested in someone like you, but you can't be looking at me like that when there's other people around, Mila. You know that. I think they're starting to get suspicious. Robbie is going to figure out that something's going on eventually," you explained, not even noticing how Camila's eyes clouded over with hurt when she heard the way that you referred to her.She was smart enough to know that this was far from being the appropriate place to continue a discussion about the 'relationship' the two of you shared, so she gave you a small smile before replying.
"I'm...sorry. Come over to my place after class and let's talk," she offered, looking at you hopefully. Normally you would've agreed without hesitation, but you hated yourself when you remembered the promise that you had made for Robbie earlier.
"I can't," you sighed, your shoulders visibly slumping, "I'm going out with Robbie tonight." Camila internally cringed, absolutely hating the thought of you being with him in ways that she wanted to keep for herself.
"That's fine," she lied, "we'll just have to figure something out later. I mean, he is your boyfriend and I'm just the person who treats you the way he's supposed to." She smiled but you could hear the hurt in her voice, not even having time to register the fact that she had kissed you too quickly for you to reciprocate before showing herself out of the room.
Camila's words made you feel really shitty, especially when you thought about how much you were hurting her by being with Robbie in public even though you truly didn't have any feelings for him. Camila was the one yo loved and she treated you like you were her everything, even though you insisted on keeping your relationship with her hidden from everyone.
She wouldn't settle for being your dirty little secret forever, that much you knew. She could find someone that isn't afraid of being with her openly, and you knew that having a relationship like that would make her happier than being hidden away with you, no matter how much you loved her and she loved you. She may be yours in private, but the time was thickly much too fast on her willingness to wait for you.
