But You're Not Mine

"She's getting married?" you murmured in shock, staring at the announcement letter that was held in your trembling hands.

"Whose getting married?" your roommate asked as she popped up next to you. Instead of responding to her directly, you simple handed her the card and watched as she read it.

"Oh, Camila? Yeah, I figured they'd be getting married eventually," she said, putting the card down and turning to face you. You looked at her in slight confusion They? What does that even mean? You weren't even aware that Camila had moved on, much less of who she had moved on with. You didn't even have to ask any questions out loud for your roommate to understand why you appeared to be so confused.

"She's been dating Shawn since..well, you know. Not sure how you couldn't have known," she chuckled awkwardly. You shrugged, but in your opinion the answer was pretty obvious. After the break up, you had completely cut Camila off. You unfollowed and blocked her on every single form on social media. Much to the annoyance of all the mutual friends you had with Camila, you also demanded that they change the subject anytime one of them tried to bring her up.

"Oh. Well, good for her I guess. She deserves to be happy." It wasn't really a lie, but not necessarily the truth either. Camila did deserve to be happy and there was no doubt that you deserved the same as well. However, you couldn't help but wish that you could be happy together.

"Maybe you could just talk to her? You know, it wasn't't like you ended on good terms and you cut her off so fast that there wasn't really a chance for either of you to talk and try to work things out. It probably won't change anything but it wouldn't hurt, especially if it might make you feel better," she suggested. You almost spit out your water at how preposterous her idea was.

"Are you joking? I'm pretty sure that she sent me this as a way to laugh in my face. Look how happy they are! The last thing on her mind is talking to me. I don't want to cause problems with her and Shawn anyway," you decided. Your roommate didn't say anything, knowing that your mind was made up and she couldn't d anything to change it. Watching her make her way into the living room, you couldn't help but wonder why Camila had bothered to send you an engagement announcement in the first place. Was it just her way of letting you know that she had managed to find happiness even though you had sworn she would never be happy without you? Whatever the reason was, you knew that even though Camila appeared to have found her happily ever after, you most certainly did not have yours.

Even though it was most definitely not her intention, the announcement letter had reignited feelings that you thought had been gone for a long time. Maybe it was time you paid Camila a visit, even if it was just to congratulate her. What could possibly go wrong?
