You groaned in complaint when Camila flopped onto the bed, causing you to be pulled away from being on the brink of falling asleep. It had been a long day and the only thing you wanted was to get some rest. Your girlfriend, however, seemed to be blissfully unaware of that.
"Sorry, babe. Did I wake you up?," she questioned, putting her hand on your side and peering over at your face. "No," you mumbled, hoping that she would pick up on your annoyance. Camila, oblivious as always, kept talking.
"So I was thinking that tomorrow we could make the trip out to go and visit..." You closed your eyes and clenched your jaw as you tried to black out Camila's obnoxious rambling. She was talking for what must've been 10 minute before you finally had enough.
"Camila! Will you please stop talking? All I want to do right now is sleep bit I ant with you blabbering on and on about stuff that I currently don't give a shit about!," you snapped, turning over to glare at the brown-eyed girl. She quirked a perfectly plucked eyebrow at you, surprised that you had lashed out since you were usually so calm.
"Fine. I'll just go sleep on the coach. Wouldn't want to hinder your beauty sleep," she said, grabbing her pillow before making her way out of the room. You couldn't help but shiver at the cold that immediately took over the spot where she had been, making you wonder if you should've jut let her keep talking. Pushing away that thought, you closed your eyes and moved around until you were able to find a comfortable position, something that was easier said than done since you were so used to having Camila to snuggle with.
Unfortunately, sleep for you didn't last very long. You were startled awake by a loud crack of thunder, "Fuck," you cursed, already feeling your heart rate pick up. Astraphobia. It was something you had developed with no explanation as a child, and sadly you still hadn't gotten over it even though you were now in college. Normally, Camila would comfort you, but that definitely wasn't going to happen tonight.
In an attempt to comfort yourself, you turned on the lights and TV, praying that the volume would drown out the storm going on outside. You grabbed your phone and tried to play games on it to distract yourself, but your hands were shaking in fear. You whined in annoyance. At almost 22, shouldn't you have grown out of this bullshit by now?
A particularly bright and loud lighting bolt had your heart beating even faster, and you knew you had to calm down before you had a panic attack. Standing on unsteady legs, you took a deep breath and started making your way downstairs to where Camila was.
You whimpered quietly with every roll of thunder, cursing yourself for not checking the radar before going to bed. The sky had been looking gray all day, but you had just been too tired to check if it was going to rain. The hallway to the stairs was pitch black because the only thing giving off light was the occasional lighting strike nearby.
Finally reaching the staircase, you fumbled your way down, relieved when you managed to reach the bottom without tripping over your own feet. You quickly scurried over to the couch where Camila was peacefully sleeping and dropped down to your knees.
"Mila," you whispered, putting your hand on her shoulder and softly shaking her. She mumbled in her sleep and used her arm to blindly push your hand away, though she missed completely due to the fact that her eyes were shut and she wasn't really awake. A particularly loud rumble of thunder made you whine softly and you really started to hate yourself for getting into an argument with your friend over something so damn trivial.
You continued to try and wake her up for a few more minutes but she refused to budge, at which point you gave up. Not seeing any other option, you stood up and tried to figure out the best way to squeeze yourself onto the couch without Camila. You could easily get in front of her, but there was barely any room and you definitely didn't want to fall off. The smart thing, in your opinion, would be to climb behind her body so you would be squeezed between her warm body and the couch. It would take a lot of effort to do so without accidentally kicking her ribs but it had to be worth it in the end, right?
You were so deep in your thoughts that a voice calling out your name nearly caused you to jump out of your skin. "Y/N? What are you doing?," the Cuban questioned quietly while sleepily rubbing her eyes. You blushed, though she couldn't see it in the dark. "Um, there's a storm," you muttered, sheepishly scarfing the back of your neck when you realized how pathetic you must've sounded. Camila sat up quickly, causing you to take a step back.
"Shit Y/N. I'm so fucking sorry. Are you okay?," she asked, the concern in her voice very clear. Instead of answering her, you plopped down in her lap and shoved your face into her neck. "I can't stand this," you gritted out. Camila wrapped her arms around you and repositioned herself so that she was laying down with you on top of her.
"Baby, you're shaking," she murmured, kissing the top of your head. You cuddled into her even more, desperately seeking even more comfort from her.
"I'm sorry for snapping," you apologized, sniffling and internally cursing yourself when you felt the tears on your cheeks that you hadn't noticed until just now. "Shh, Y/N, it's okay. I'm just worried about you right now." She instructed you to calm down by copying her breathing, something that wasn't as easy as it sounded.
Eventually, you were able to slow your breathing and now you were exhausted to say the least. "What time is it?," you asked, shifting around so you could look at her. "A little past 2. Ready to go back to bed?" You nodded but made no movie to get up, earning a quiet chuckle from Camila. "Okay, I guess we can stay here."
She continued rubbing your back, encouraging you to fall asleep again. "I love you so much Y/N, please don't ever doubt that, even if we're fighting over stupid shit," she whispered, probably thinking that would wouldn't hear her. The storm was gone, you and Camila were going to be okay, and she would always be there for you no matter what.
