Author's Note:

Hello, swaghetti_123 here! I am back with the next chapter of Fear of the Innocent Flame.❤️❤️

I hope this surprise is nice and that you have enjoyed it. Let me know if you did!

Just as a reminder, I now have a random book! Please check it out!😊

Now that all that is taken care of, I hope you enjoy the tenth chapter of Fear of the Innocent Flame🔥🔥!!

Landlady's POV (Yep, she's back!)

I just left my office to go to my resident, Lucy's apartment. I need to give her the newspaper I had promised to give to her. Though, this one will be missing a page... She will never know!

I am still not sure about why she is 'missing' and I am not sure why she needs to read the paper. I should ask her... I won't mention the missing report, but I will ask why she reads the news all the time. People her age should not be reading this!

To get to Lucy's apartment, I need to walk up a flight of stairs. In my youth, I would have easily run up and down those stairs one hundred times! But now... one time makes me wheeze out from exhaustion. Not to mention the thousands of buckets I sweat from this difficult journey I shall take! (She is quite dramatic, it seems.😂😂)

It takes years to trudge up the mountain of stairsteps, but I finally make it to the top! Accomplishment fills through my veins like a river flows through the valleys. It was a great feeling... for like five seconds. Then the thought of going back down ruined my triumphant moment. Damn these stairs!

I proceed to do what I came to do. I knocked on her door to give her the newspaper.

Lucy's POV

I don't know why but the knock at my door made me relieved. That didn't last long because then I felt fear. Fear of who or what could possibly be behind it. I tried to hide the fact that I was scared, but Natsu noticed that I wasn't getting up to get it.

"Are you going to go answer it, Luce?" Natsu asked me. He clearly looked concerned or maybe confused. I don't know. Right now I am paralyzed and don't want to get it.

To my surprise, the door spoke. Well, not the door but the person behind it. "Hey, Lucy! I have a weekly newspaper for you! Are you in there?" I instantly knew the voice and relaxed.

I sprinted towards the door to let her in. "What took you so long? My feeble, old, woman legs can't stand here forever! I could have died from exhaustion just to give you this stupid paper!" my landlady said while pretending to faint. I sweatdropped at how extra she is being right now.

After this display, I had begun to think if I had paid my rent this month. I am pretty sure I did pay her... though I feel like I am forgetting something else... that something is Natsu. Crap! She doesn't allow people to live in her apartments without them paying part of the rent.

"Earth to Lucy! Hey, you alive in there? Can I come in for some coffee since I just exerted energy to give this to you?" the landlady said to me as she waved the newspaper in front of my face. This brought me out of my thoughts.

I quickly glanced behind me to see if Natsu was in sight. To my surprise, I could not see him. That's odd, he was just sitting at the table. I turned back around and replied, "Sure, make yourself at home!"

Good thing Natsu hid because now I should not have any problems... hopefully.

Landlady's POV (She is honestly my favorite!😍😅)

I have now entered my resident's apartment. I look around to see how she has kept up with the place. It's quite nice and clean. The complete opposite of my office/house.

The scent of pancakes and scrambled eggs filled my nostrils, making me hungry all of a sudden. "Did you make pancakes and... eggs??" I asked her. I followed the scent into the kitchen. Sadly there were no more pancakes or eggs to be seen. I would have asked for some if there were. One thing caught my attention that seemed odd... there were TWO plates on the table.

She knows she can't have a permanent guest here unless they pay rent. I noticed Lucy had started to make the coffee I wanted. At Least she has that. Otherwise, I get nothing for my kindness.

I casually sat down at the table and waited patiently for the coffee. I think she has instant coffee, so it only took her a few minutes.

"To answer your question from earlier, yes, I did make pancakes and eggs. Also, do you want cream or sugar with that?" Lucy asks me as she hands the warm liquid to me.

I responded, "No thank you, I like to drink mine black. It's healthier that way." I took the black substance and take a slow sip to be sure not to burn my mouth. After all, I need my mouth in order to be able to talk to Lucy.

No One's POV

The two sat there, drinking their coffee. Not really talking much. Just a few side questions here and there.

This whole time, Lucy has been extremely nervous about Natsu being here. She has no clue where he is and is constantly taking glances around to see if she can locate him. Lucy has not noticed the extra plate on the table.

The landlady has now finished her coffee and decided to slip the newspaper to Lucy for her to read. Lucy nodded to her in thanks as she received it. The landlady was surprised when she took it and only set it aside. She would usually take it immediately and begin to search for what she has been waiting to hear.

"I have a question for you, or a couple of them actually. Is it fine if I ask them?" the landlady asked sorta sweetly, which is odd for her.

Lucy responded with, "Um... sure! Yes, you can. Ask away!" She bit her lip in anticipation as to what she may ask.

The landlady cleared her throat and said, "First off, I have been curious. What news are you waiting to hear about? I know its not any of my business, but I do give you the paper for free sooo I kinda deserve to know right?"

Lucy breathed out a silent breath she did not know she had held in. This was a question she could answer. "I am waiting to hear about my mother's death... she was very ill the last time I saw her." Lucy looked down, sorrow evident in her eyes.

This caught the landlady off guard. She felt bad for asking that. "Oh, I am sorry to hear that sweety. I know what it is like to lose a mother. I have lost mine. After all, I am quite old. What was she like?" The landlady had now completely forgotten to ask about the plate.

Her question made Lucy very happy. Lucy began to tell her landlady all about her mother. Lucy had so much to say that they talked for two hours and had a total of 3 cups of coffee. They each had a cup and the landlady had the third. She wanted to get the most out of this visit.

"I have had a great time. Thank you, umm... Could I know your first name, so I don't have to keep on calling you 'landlady'?" Lucy had asked the landlady as they walked to the door of the apartment after their long talk.

"Its Mindy, Mindy Yamiko. I feel like the conversation we just had makes me trust you more. So you can call me by my first name. I do already call you by yours since I don't know your last name." (I totally did not just give her a name so it would take less typing.😁😅)

With that, Mindy parted from the apartment and made her way back to her office. She had completely forgotten to ask about the plate.

Both ladies were happy and found out more about each other.

Lucy returned to the comfort of her apartment after seeing Mindy off. Then, almost instantly, she felt a pair of eyes staring at her from behind the couch.

It was Natsu.

He had heard their whole discussion from his hiding spot.
