The Life of Ki (Naruto Fanfic)

Practice Fighting

RECAP: Kiba came to me in a panic about a forgotten project he needs to get done and begs me to impersonate him for the rest of the day. I disguise myself as Akamaru, and me and Ino go to Choji's house with Naruto to meet Shikamaru and Choji there. While taking a break from the jutsu, Shikamaru drops in on me and Ino and accuses us of doing something to Kiba.

"I pro--" I start to explain what happened when Ino grabs my arm and starts to run.

I grunt in surprise as I'm yanked backwards by her momentum. I stumble, but follow thinking she has a plan. Me and Ino are just about to get away, when suddenly we both stop.

I struggle to lift my foot, but can't move much more than a centimeter. I look to the ground and see that my shadow is somehow being grabbed by Shikamaru's shadow.

The boy is sitting in a crouch with his hands in a sign and a smirk on his face.

Damn Shadow Possession Jutsu.

I realize that we're completely trapped in Shikamaru's Shadow Possession jutsu, so I stop struggling. Ino sighs and gives in as well.

Shikamaru stands and walks forwards slowly, and me and Ino have no choice but to do the same as his shadows control us.

"Now, I had hoped that this would be a relaxing night, but I guess you two wanted to crash it? Where is Kiba?"

This is the most intrigued I've ever seen Shikamaru, and it's kind of frightening.

If we wanted to crash it we would have brought more people.

Ino never takes her eyes off of him, and smirks the best she can. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Shikamaru seems to find this funny. "Ino, I just caught you two in the act. I can't make you talk, but I can keep you two here until you do."

Ino glares at him. "I'll never talk!" She shouts dramatically.

The boy ignores her and turns to me. "Explain, kI."

I'm about to clear up the situation when I remember: I can't. I promised Kiba not to tell anyone what he was out doing.

"Name, Rank, and Serial Number only." I give Shikamaru a smug look.

Choji and Naruto come out from the house, see what is happening, and run to the group. Naruto looks completely lost, but Choji is either hiding it better, or has a good idea of what's going on. Naruto stops and stands next to Shikamaru.

"Hey kI! You finally did show up! And you brought Ino!" Naruto grins. "Where'd Kiba go?" He looks around in puzzlement.

"I dunno." I give an exaggerated shrug and look around mockingly.

"These two were just posing as Kiba, Naruto. That's what I'm trying to figure out; where'd Kiba go?" Shikamaru asks me this time.

Ino looks at me worriedly and then interrupts. "I'm telling you we don't know!" She answers for me.

"Then what are you doing here?" Shikamaru looks on the verge of ending his possession jutsu, and not by choice.

I take one final look up, and see that Ino and Naruto oddly have the same expression on their face.

They want to fight over this...? I realize quickly. Naruto has always been one to prove himself, and Ino will go as far as fighting in order to get her way. She wants to prove herself; Naruto probably does too...

Shikamaru ends his jutsu, and Ino pulls me into a wide patch of bare ground farther away from them. Shikamaru looks completely worn out, and Ino laughs.
