The Life of Ki (Naruto Fanfic)

Enter, Orochimaru

The enemy that previously impersonated Naruto gives me a smile, his long tongue hanging out the corner of his mouth.

"Since you guys have the Heaven scroll, I'm guessing you would like my Earth scroll?"

With one gulp, he eats the scroll whole and looks up to smile at me.

"Well, if you want my scroll, you'll have to kill me." He grins as he licks his lips.

"Now, let's begin the battle for Heaven and Earth."

Sasuke takes a step back, leaving me plenty of room to attack the enemy.

I'm going to another this guy! Shadow Clones!

As I try to attack, my legs behind to feel like jelly. I can't even take a step towards the enemy, nor away.

Beside me, Sakura and Sasuke seem to be having the same trouble. My eyes widen as the enemy ninja raises three Kunai to his cheek as he aims to throw them.

My body is not responding to my orders, and the man seems to be moving four times as fast as a human should.

I need to move, fast!

I try to call out a warning, but it is too late. The enemy throws the kunai, and I watch as Sakura and Sasuke are impaled through the head.

Their limp heads turn to face me, and their white, pupil-less eyes are all I see.

Blood splatters the ground, and I lift my hand to touch my own forehead tentatively. A knife protrudes from between my eyes, and I scream as I fall into darkness.

I blink in stunned silence as reality falls onto me. In front of me, the man has not moved an inch.

Was that genjutsu?

I take a knee as I clutch my stomach.

I just watched two of my closest friends die... it felt so real...

Beside me, Sakura falls to her knees trembling, and Sasuke pukes onto the grass. Clearly, they saw their own lives flash before their eyes as well.

Fear begins to consume me from the inside out, and I can't help as my hands begin to tremble.

"This is bad." Sasuke says quietly as he wipes his mouth.

"We must run. Otherwise, ...we will die." He says with wide eyes.

I turn to look at my ever-so confident teammate, but all I see is a terrified ninja. To my other side, Sakura kneels obvious to her surroundings, shaking so much anyone would think she would explode.

I doubt that I look any better in their eyes.

Sasuke is right, the three of us need to flee, but my body seems frozen with fear. Even if I wanted to run, I may end up passing out from this overwhelming feeling.

I meet Sasuke's wide, fearful eyes and give him a tiny nod.

"I'll get Sakura," I tell him.

I narrow my eyes as I glance up at the enemy. My legs aren't responding.

Sasuke's hand trembles as he raises his kunai to attack, but his legs don't budge an inch. I watch in stunned silence as he raises the kunai to throw, only to drive the kunai into his own leg.

He lets out a cry of pain as he collapses back to the ground, and I'm left in shock at his own clumsiness.

For some reason, though, stabbing himself seems to have woken up his senses. Sasuke stands to his feet more confidently as though just shaking off a charm.
