The next morning, I rise with the sun and mentally pat myself on the back.
Grabbing my backpack and papers, I check out of the hotel and start walking down the street.
It isn't long before I'm exiting the gates and leaving behind the peaceful town.
Yawning, I hardly notice the two travelers clad head-to-toe in black approaching me and the town.
One of them nearly crashes into me, but I dodge at the last second.
Ignoring me, the two travelers keep walking.
"Nice outfits. Matching? Cute." I call back to the travelers, my passive-aggressive side claiming me today.
I keep walking, thinking nothing of it besides them being two weary and rude travelers, until I realize that no native of the Land of Wind would be foolish enough to wear all black.
Unless they're trying to hide something.
I debate between checking up on the village or getting on with my journey, but my conscious easily gets the best of me and I trek back to the path to the village.
I just want to see what they're up to. They make me nervous.
It doesn't take long to return to the village.
And the second I arrive, I'm glad I returned.
The travelers who had passed me before, a man and a woman I now realize, are clearly ninjas.
The couple stands by the large lake at the center of the town with what appears to be a hostage, more specifically a young girl.
They're shouting something, and have attracted quite a crowd.
I can see Ren, Yuta, and their mother in the midst of the crowd, and I quietly make my way towards them.
I have to help the village; my new friends are in danger!
As I get closer, I can hear the criminals blabbing about ransom and threatening the lives of the whole town if they don't get what they want.
I'm hardly concerned with this, focusing more on how to stop them than how to please them.
While moving around the back of the crowd and once in position, I decide on what to do.
Attack them; they'll either dodge or get hit.
Before I get the chance to act on this, I see an angry Yuta step out from the crowd toward the ninjas.
"How dare you!" Yuta shouts.
"What kind of coward resorts to thievery? If you're hungry, we will give you food. If you're thirsty we will give you a drink. But we can't give you everything we have. That would be like giving up our lives! I won't let you!" Yuta shouts.
Ren looks at the criminals in fear before dragging Yuta by the collar back to safety.
I smile at the bravery of the young girl.
"Wait!" The female criminal commands.
"Those are fighting words, kid. Let's make a deal. You may pick anyone in the village to fight me. If he or she wins, my husband and I will leave. If he or she loses, we get everything with no objection." The woman gives a Cheshire smile, knowing she has already won the presupposed fight.
Yuta stomps her foot in anger, clearly displeased.
"That's not fair! You know there aren't any ninjas in this village!" She scowls.
The criminals only shrug, knowing they have outplayed the young girl.
Anyone IN the village, eh? Heh heh heh.
