The History of Netherton

That Night

Leo squirms and winces as Yusei uses acupuncture to help with his wounds.

Leo: Geez, Yusei, I thought you said acupuncture would make me feel better.

Yusei: (stabbing Leo again) Trust me, it will.

Luna sits against a wall with an amused smirk and Akiza is sitting in front of Leo, holding a picture of an animal.

Yusei: (stabbing Leo again causing Leo to yelp) It's just not easy finding the right nerve points under all this fur.

Akiza: (holding the picture up) Maybe you should look at this again.

Yusei: (realizing where to go next) Oh! Ok.

Leo: I know Master Goodwin is trying to inspire me and all but if I didn't know any better, I'd say he was trying to get rid of me.

Yusei and Akiza look at each other before looking back at Leo and smiling nervously.

Luna: (chuckling) It's alright, Leo already knows what Master Goodwin is doing.

Yusei: (surprised) Really?

Akiza: (surprised) You do?

Leo: Yeah, I kind of figured it when he shouted at me that I am not the Dragon Warrior.

Yusei: Well, we're sorry about how our master has been acting towards you. I know he can seem kind of heartless but he wasn't always like that.

Akiza: According to legend, there was once a time when Master Goodwin actually use to smile.

Leo: (before getting stabbed again) ...Nope. Can't see it.

Akiza: But that was before-.

Luna: (cutting Akiza off with a frown) Netherton.

Crow: (through his wall) Yeah, were not really supposed to talk about him.

Luna: Well, if he's going to be staying here, he should know.

Leo: (before yelping) Who's Netherton? (to Yusei) Do you mind stopping for a minute?

Yusei stops and moves to sit beside him.

Luna: Netherton was one of Master Goodwin's students. They called him a prodigy, a genius. He even mastered the Thousand Scrolls of Kung Fu. But to Master Goodwin, he was more than just a student, he was his son.

Leo's eyes widen at this.

Luna: Goodwin found him as a cub and he raised him as his son. And when the boy showed talent for Kung Fu, Goodwin trained him. He believed in him. He told him he was destined for greatness. But it was never enough for Netherton. (starting to frown) He wanted the Dragon Scroll, but Tzolkin saw darkness in his heart and refused.

Leo: What happened then?

Luna: He was outraged. Because he didn't get what he thought he deserved, he unleashed his anger and laid waste to the Valley. He tried to take the scroll by force, and Goodwin had to destroy what he had created. But how could he? Goodwin loved Netherton like he had never loved anyone before. (she reflects on memories of her trying Kung Fu) Or since. (looking into his eyes) And now he has a chance to make things right. To train the true Dragon Warrior. (with a smirk) Unfortunately you treat things like a joke.

Leo is about to say something before his face freezes in a funny way.

Luna: (extending her claws) Oh! Thats it!

Yusei: (jumping over Leo and holding his hands out) Wait! My fault! I accidentally tweaked his facial nerve!

Leo falls forward to reveal hundreds of needles, embedded in him.

Yusei: And may have also stopped his heart.
