APHMAU'S POV
Apparently, when Alina said 'I found it' she meant she found it, not that it was close. Aphmau sighed, stepping over another root. Aaron and Lizzie had pulled ahead, their longer legs and several thousand years of being on the move proving useful. Alina was right in front of Aphmau.
"Hey Alina." Aphmau began, breaking an awkward silence that had hung between them for a while.
"Yeah?" Alina replied, moving to one side to avoid tripping over a pile of rocks.
"What was I- your mother like?"
Alina was silent for so long, she began to wonder if she had said the wrong thing.
"She was amazing. She was strong, independent, kind, smart, a good leader. She sacrificed herself so that we all could live." Alina said quietly.
"How old were you?"
"Five." She whispered.
"Why would she leave you?"
"Because if she didn't," Alina turned to look at her, "We all would have died, and there was no way out of it."
At this point, Aphmau was fairly sure that Alina was holding back tears.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She offered, unsure of what to say.
"Talk about what?" Alina choked out.
"Your mother, your siblings, your home? Anything really."
"You mean that?"
"Of course."
"Okay then." Alina breathed, "When I was born, my mother was in the middle of building a city. The Phoenix Alliance Capital. Where Starlight is now. My father was dead, and Lilith was almost one."
"Your father, how did he die?" Aphmau asked hesitantly.
"He gave his life to destroy the Irene Dimension portal, rescue Garroth, and kill Zane."
"Your parents have a habit of sacrificing themselves." She joked, immediately regretting it, "I'm sorry I-"
"It's fine." Alina shrugged, "I guess they do."
"My dad didn't know about me, when he died. Mum didn't know she was pregnant yet. So it was just Lilith and Mum he was leaving behind. He had had a wife, and a son, before. Zane killed them, along with the rest of his village. He had no one, until mum. He helped her. She said he was kind, caring, selfless, brave and witty. And he loved his family."
"My past life," Aphmau started, "As your mother, I had other children, didn't I?"
"Yes. You had four children, two sons, Levin and Malachi, and two daughters, Lilith and me. I was your only biological daughter, but you loved us all the same."
"Where did I... find Levin, Malachi and Lilith?"
"Well, Levin was left at your doorstep, and it turned out he was the son of the previous lord of Phoenix Drop, who was now dead. His wife was captured, and gave him to a man named Vylad to keep him safe. Vylad left him at your doorstep. You took him in, and you were his mother. Zoe was too, she raised him while you were stuck in the Irene Dimension. Malachi was different. He was a magic using child, who specialised in fear magic. He was a ghost, cursed to be trapped in a traveling castle for all eternity, even though he was just a kid. You found him, and you rescued him, and thanks to a magic mishap he became human. And Lilith, well. You knew some Wyverns, in a way, and you and dad stumbled onto their cave in your search for an island. There had been a shipwreck some days before, and Lilith was the only survivor. She was just a baby, but she was an orphan. The wyverns gave her to you and dad, and you gave her her name, Lilith. A variation of Lily, who was dad's wife's name. And her middle name, Garnet, dad gave her, after Garroth."
"Wow." Aphmau breathed, "That's amazing, that your mother would do that. Just take in all those children."
"They needed her." Alina said simply.
"Hey guys!" Lizzie called from up ahead, "Lookie what we found!"
Alina and Aphmau exchanged a glance and ran towards Lizzie. Lizzie was fine, so was Aaron, and they were standing in a temple square, or something.
"Look!" Lizzie smiled, pointing ahead.
A wide staircase descended into the ground.
"What is that?" Aphmau asked, confused.
"It's a crypt." Aaron answered, speaking for the first time in a while.
"It's your crypt." Lizzie corrected him, "Your's, Garroth's, and Alina's."
A/N- See, I told you I could write two chapters in a week. I'm proud of myself. And now I'm gonna go do the thing I'm meant to be doing, the dreaded homework. Enjoy, and I promise we'll be getting to the action soon. I just wanted some fluff before everything goes downhill. Anyway, enjoy and thanks for reading! :)
