Matsuo stood still in shock at what he heard. To Matsuo, his world seemed to be spiraling out of control. His crush and future soulmate, now out of reach for him to grab. Like a crane machine failing to lift up the toy, he was bound to fail at grabbing and securing his true love. “Oh, I’m sorry for putting unnecessary stress on you.” Matsuo bolted towards his seat while trying to hide his tears. Unable to notice his tears battering against the surface of the gray carpet, Matsuo sat in his desk and got it coated with tears.
“Uhh…” said Ayano who was dumbfounded. She started to sniff and rub her eyes. Ayano scrunched her face and began to cry. “W-Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh! I’m s-s-sorry!” She scurried towards Matsuo and gave him a big bear hug. “I-I-I’m sorry, I just can’t go with you! I’m sorry!” Ayano began to tightly squeeze Matsuo as if she were giving the Heimlich maneuver to his chest and shoulders. “What a kid.” said Matsuo to himself as he gently smiled. “But that what I like about her. She brings out the joy of being a child in me.”
“Class! Let’s begin class now!” Yelled Mr. Torres as his voice echoed throughout the classroom, causing some students to jump. Mr. Torres began his lecture, but I didn’t really pay any attention to him. I am a daydreamer. Times like these I like to look out the window and admire the view of the forests on the right side and the ocean on the left side. I usually don’t focus on the sky much because it just seems boring to me in the morning since no stars are out except the sun. But something in the sky seems to catch my eye today. The sun. I looked outside and caught a glimpse of a fireball shooting out of the sun. The fireball cut through the ozone layer and penetrated through the atmosphere, hitting the earth. I wonder what it is? A meteor? A solar flare? Who knows? Maybe Star would know something about it. Whatever I was looking at looked so warm… and cozy… Eventually my vision faded and darkness took over.
I must’ve dozed off because the class was over once I gained consciousness. “Hey, Nazu?” Said Daylin after waving his hand in front of me. “Yeah?” “Dude. Class is over man.” “Okay let’s go to the next class then.” “Were you not listening? They announced the schedule will be changed and school will be closed early to investigate the fires. We have lunch right now too.” “Okay let's get lunch then.” Does that mean I don’t have detention? Daylin and I walked out of my class, Nuage nowhere in sight. Mr. Torres stopped me as I walked to the door. “Hey Nazuni can I talk to you for a bit?” “Sure. What do you need?” “I know we have another short day schedule, but remember you still have to attend to detention right after you eat lunch.” “Yeah I’ll be here in a bit.” “Good.” After we were finished talking about my grades too, I walked out the door to find Daylin almost across the hallway, not waiting for me at all. “Wait! Daylin!” I yelled as I was stumbling down the hallway trying to pack up my backpack and zip it up. Daylin stopped in his tracks and stood still in the middle of the hallway. In a matter of seconds, I managed to catch up. Daylin still had his back turned towards me. “Nuage told me what you’re planning.” He said. “If I see you sneaking in my house, looking at what you’re not supposed to, you’re going to get killed.” “You’re kidding right?” I said, still chilled by what he just said. “No, this isn’t a game Naz. If you butt in my business, one knife right through here will end you.” said Daylin as he pointed right below my Adam’s apple on my throat. “It will be a long, painful, quiet death.” What is he saying? Did all those years of friendship not mean anything to him? He’s not the same anymore. The old Daylin is always filled with joy and life, all of that has been taken away from him. His roots had stopped growing because of the weeds of frustration, loneliness, and fear. I felt a huge wave of regret rising in my heart. Would… would thing be better if I noticed his despair earlier? Would things be fine if I didn’t interfere? I’m a terrible friend. Daylin doesn’t even care about me anymore. He’s willing to throw away my life as if he’s never met me before. Daylin then walked away from the scene, leaving me dumbfounded in the hallways. What a bittersweet tint to my life. One of my only friends wants to kill me. Just my luck. I… I mean… I could just die now. Get it over with… My life is shitty anyways. After all this deep thought and contemplation, Aki popped up in my brain. No! I can’t do that! How could I even think about something like that?!
