"How is it that you are such a bad dancer?" Arthit groans. He winces when Kongpob steps on his toes for the fourth time tonight.
They are in Arthit's room. He's teaching his boyfriend how to do a slow dance for batch 59's graduation party. Maprang managed to force Tew to agree with the idea of having a prom-themed ball. She said it's her last chance to find romance in college.
"It's not my fault you're totally in love with me," Kongpob says.
"What are you talking about?"
"Well, you agreed to dance with me, even when you know how terrible I am at dancing. I really think you'd have to be in love with me for that," Kongpob proudly says.
"Shut up! How about focus on your footing, huh?"
Kongpob grins but does as he's told, trying to keep his arm steady around Arthit's waist. With the look on his face, he's enjoying this practice a lot.
Arthit sighs, "Okay, so this is the part where you and Praepailin–"
"Can you stop pretending I'm practicing for Prae?"
Yes, Arthit can do that. However, he knows it's best to pair his boyfriend with Praepailin, knowing she doesn't and won't have romantic feelings for Kongpob. According to Arthit, she's "safe."
"If not Praepailin, who's going to be your partner, huh?"
"You," Kongpob quickly answers with conviction, squeezing Arthit's hand.
"That has yet to be determined," Arthit argues weakly, his voice wavering.
"What's left to be determined? You're my boyfriend. Of course, you will be my date."
"Can we just finish the lesson?"
"I love you, P'Arthit. Be my date, please?"
Arthit just continues his steps, mouth completely shut.
"Dance with me, please?"
Arthit closes his eyes and inhales deeply. "Praepailin will be the best partner for you."
"No. You are."
"Kong, I don't even know if I won't have work on that day."
"I already told Tew to schedule the party on a Saturday," Kongpob cheekily responds.
"I... I won't have friends there. I will be out of place."
"P'Knot already confirmed that he will come. And do you really think I'll leave you alone?"
"Kong..."
Kongpob breathes in deeply. He doesn't want to use it, but he's left with no other choice.
"If you won't be my date, other people will be brave to ask me for a dance."
Arthit lifts his head to look at him, scowling. "What?"
"May might dance with me."
"Nong May?"
"She and Aim fought."
"I doubt it."
"If not May, there's also Cee."
"Who's Cee?"
"And also Fern... and Lynn."
Arthit suddenly hates that his boyfriend is so popular. "Who are these girls? Are they even in your batch?"
"Some of our juniors will also come. Khaofang will be there."
"That– Khaofang?" Arthit doesn't intend his eyes to widen, but they do when he hears the name.
"She said she'll come."
"Hmmmm..." Arthit gazes at their feet. "What time's the party?"
Kongpob beams a wide smile and lets out a soft chuckle. Arthit feels Kongpob's shoulders shaking because of it, so he doesn't fail to catch Kongpob's reaction.
Feeling made fun of by his boyfriend, Arthit steps on his toes.
"Aw! P'Arthit!"
"If I discover you're fooling me, you're a dead man, Kongpob."
Massaging his aching toes, Kongpob just gives Arthit a satisfied look.
Who cares if he's a dead man? Or if his toes would swell? He'd be happy with his date on that night anyway.
"So, Kong, what are we going to wear?"
