The remainder of the way to the coordinates were easier than the whole journey before. There was no more steep inclines to trek, only flat surfaces. John and Martha could now make out in the distance an abandoned building that sat right where the coordinates were specified. They seemed relieved that their journey was almost over but then the crunching sound of snow graced their ears. As they looked back, running towards them was Jen.
"run! John, Martha, behind me!" Jen yelled.
Behind Jen was this beast like, half human, skinless beast charging toward her. John and Martha looked at each other in disbelief before sprinting toward the building hoping for safety. They made it to the building barging through the front door, they waited for Jen before they barricaded the door. The beast grunted and growled circling the perimeter in hopes of getting inside.
It was of no use the building was completely sealed except for the front door. John and Martha looked around for any means of escape, scavenging the warehouse for any food or supplies they could find as well. Jen stumbled upon an elevator door behind a stack of boxes. Apparently whoever worked here left in a hurry because it was poorly hidden.
"John, Martha!," she called
They came running. Upon meeting the elevator door John and Martha were skeptical. They didn't know what to expect wherever the elevator would lead them. They pondered for a moment, John wondered if this was the elevator to the lab or a bunker of some sort. Martha remembered the date of their wedding day circled and the coordinates that pointed to this exact place.
"What did this all mean" she wondered.
They already came this far and risked life and limb to get here, also stumbled upon a mystery within a mystery. They needed answers, they needed to know the truth.
What really happened on their wedding day?
Who was really this girl named Jen who appeared out of nowhere?
What was this Authermus creature?
Why is it trying to kill them?
These questions and more were on their minds and they needed to investigate further to uncover the real truth. Before they entered the elevator,
"Jen!, you were behind us when u accompanied us up the trail... Where did you disappear to?" John asked suspiciously
"And why doesn't the cold affect you like it does to normal people?" asked Martha
"also, your eyes... Why do they glow.. Are you an experiment?" John asked again.
Jen honestly wished that she could answer all their questions but she couldn't,
"Yes I was behind you up the trail but I fell through a steep hole in the snow and fell unconscious. When I awoke, I saw that creature walking away from me. I tried to meet back with you but then it circled back. When it noticed that I was gone it came looking for me I guess. I started running at the first sign of the beast and that's when I saw you and told you to run..that's exactly how it happened... I wish I could explain the rest to you but I am also searching for answers.. I think Authermus, as you call it, saved me," Jen explained as tears flowed down her face, freezing as it hit the floor.
John and Martha apologized for being so suspicious but Jen understood why they had to be extra cautious. Jen pushed the red background lit arrow for the elevator to reach them. When the door had finally opened, inside was huge, similar to a living room. They entered and sat on the sofa, the door closed and the television came on. A woman dark in complexion, medium height high faded black hair came on screen in a Lilly white lab coat. She advertised Jsons DNA testing facility as the most advanced in the world. A series of experiments conducted were listed and the most outstanding one was the Molecular DNA Transfusion. Martha looked at the number on the elevator, they were down on floor six hundred and counting.
They stopped on floor six hundred and sixty seven. The door opened and there was this luke warm dry air circulating the premises.
"This looked like the lobby area of an office" Martha said.
There was this wooden door ahead of them with no sign saying what was behind. It could be the lair of that creature Authomus or a trap or just a dead end. John Martha and Jen made their way slowly toward the door. Upon opening, there was this bright light that eventually faded enough for them to see.
A laboratory, ramsacked, there was a dry red substance covering the floor, with signs of a struggle. Metal tables bent, claw marks on the walls and teeth impressions on the prosthetic legs of the already decomposing bodies of two scientists in the corner.
John thought this place looked familiar, Martha got this pain in her stomach again and Jen searched the room. John looked around and noticed the cctv camera behind him, he stood under the camera and looked at the lab. This was the laboratory in the video where the accident took place. Jen then interrupted his investigation as she found a tape in a waste basket. Someone tried to burn the tape in order to hide something but it didn't finish burning, the fire must hav died out sooner than expected.
The vcr on the table was hooked up to a monitor which had been broken, so even though they had a tape there was no television to play it on. John put the tape in his bag and they began searching for another room in hopes to find another television. Jen noticed Martha on her knees holding her stomach so she ran to her assistance. Martha finally told her about the pain she experienced and the different times in which she did. Jen raised Martha's sweater, her coat which was already unbuttoned due to the warmth in the lab made it easier. Jen slightly noticed the zig zag unprofessional stitching along Martha's caserian but Martha pulled her sweater down in order to hide her hideous scar from her husband.
