Chapter 23
Dining Disasters
I replayed what my mother just said to me.
“The thing is you might have heard both of them.”
I waited for her to tell me.
“His name is Lucas Tucker or Mr Tee as he likes to call himself sometimes." Mum chuckled softly. "He teaches Music and his son is called Dixson Tucker. They both go to your school.”
That when I felt my body freeze up and I could no longer grasp on to the edges of the plate, letting it fall and break into jagged pieces.
“Rose! Are you okay? Stand still and let me pick up the broken pieces. Oh dear. Wait here let me get you some shoes.”
Mum then left the kitchen; leaving me to let my mind digest the new information I had been given.
My mum was dating my Music teacher.
And to make matters worse, his son was the guy who was in a permanent bad mood and had a problem with me.
Maybe the fact that my mum is dating his dad is the problem he has with me. Did that mean he knew that my mother was dating his dad from before I started school?
Things were beginning to make sense as I slowly pieced the puzzle together.
It explains why Dixson looked at me that way when he heard my name in my first lesson.
That night I laid awake in bed, thinking. I played pros and cons with the situation with my mother dating my Music teacher.
Cons:
1. It’s weird that my Mum is dating my teacher
2. People may make fun if they found out
3. Dixson Tucker was his son who has had an issue with me since Day 1 and I think will still continue to have issues with me in the far future
4. I was a little bit scared of what Dixson Tucker is capable of
But then I thought of Pros. If I was being honest there wasn’t a lot. Except for one:
1. My mother was happy. And that’s all that mattered.
The next morning, Mum told me news that made my stomach curdle.
“Now that I’ve told you about us, Lucas wants all of us to get together and have dinner at his place. Luckily he lives on the same road as us, so this weekend we’ll go over and have a meal with him and his son. So you guys can get to know each other and Rose please try to get on with them both. I really like Lucas and want it to work.”
I sympathised with her but I didn’t think I was the one who was going to be difficult. I had a feeling Dixson had that pretty much covered.
I silently nodded and tried to have another spoonful of cereal but I couldn’t swallow the cheerios which now tastes like rocks down my throat, so I washed up and left for school.
During school I kept my head down, not in the mood for any chit chat. Kyle and Alice could tell something was up with me, even Ella came and asked if something was wrong but I put on a brave face and told them I was fine. I don’t think they bought it but they didn’t ask me again. I was planning on telling them just later.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the event that would take place tonight and all the possible scenarios that could happen.
To be honest some of the scenarios that I’d thought up were a bit farfetched. It started from things like Dixson would beat me up then he would poison me finishing off by roasting me in the oven for a light snack. I mentally shook my head trying to clear my mind from such crazy things.
