Chapter 36

Collect Memories, Not Things

The next few days had been filled with paranoia, feeling petrified and being positively on edge as I waited for Axel to come forth with his 'wish'. Granted, I had been avoiding him more than usual but as the week went by I resumed our normal relationship. Well, normal as they'll ever get with Axel and I. But he had not uttered or even muttered a single word of his wish and by now I was getting rather irritated.

"Seriously!" I erupted, throwing my script down on the table. "He has to stop doing this! I hate this feeling of not knowing when he's going to pop the question and ask me."

"You make it sound like a proposal." Alice sniggered covering her laugh with her script.

I narrowed my eyes and her laughter ceased, "I know he's doing this on purpose, getting me all anxious and agitated."

Alice put down her script and picked up my own, handing it to me.

"Yeah, and it's working. If I know my brother then he is probably doing this on purpose, so don't let him get to you. Come on, you have to practice your lines. Focus, and get into character." She said flicking my forehead lightly.

She was right. The Winter production roles had been casted after a rather serious audition phase where Mrs Danes went all, well, Mrs Darbous. You can imagine how precise she wanted her actors and actresses to be. However, and I quote her exact words, we were not all born and bred in Hollywood and that she'll work with what's she's given. Well excuse us but it wasn't our fault she didn't get into the Westend and was stuck as our drama teacher.

Our eyes, along with many others who had volunteered to join the production, were fixed on stage where a performance with a frightening Beast and an innocent Belle was currently being held. I smiled as I watched Ella act as Belle. I was quite surprised at how much she changed once she was on stage and acting, she instantly became more confident and in control of her emotions and behavior.

The Beast who was Will, played his role exceptionally too. I think a reason he was casted as the lead was the way he held himself was prince-like and could change his mood to beast-like and channel his anger in his acting.

To be honest I thought Dixson would've made a good Beast but apparently he didn't want to be the lead or any character but Mrs Dane had other ideas and he was given a small role as a piece of talking furniture. You're probably wondering why I didn't think that Axel would've made a good Beast. Well, that was because a more striking character suited him much better.

"Out of his way peasants. Here comes Gaston!" Kyle exaggerated pushing away imaginary people, acting as Gaston's flawless man-servant, LeFou.

Axel sauntered upon the stage, one hand holding his script, the other hand running through his hair.

He slowly opened his eyes, "What a marvelous day it is, to be me. Just having me here to admire is enough for these townsfolk." He finished executing a striking smirk.

Furious clapping erupted from Mrs Danes, making me and others jump up in shock.

"My word! That was brilliant. Your 'Gaston' is positively perfect!"

I muffled my laugh as I watched Axel squirm in embarrassment as he rubbed the back of neck.

"Thanks Miss, but some of the stuff he says is really, well, self-centered."

I snorted. "And that's any different from what you usually say because...?"

He glared at me. Then stuck his index finger mouthing the words, 'one wish'. My eyes opened wide and a cold shiver went down my spine. I retreated and kept my mouth shut.
