Chapter 26
Mr Nice Guy?
I closed my eyes and took a sharp breath before turning around to face him. When I said this Garden Party couldn't get any worse, well it just did.
Axel looked at me for a few seconds after before clearing his throat and saying, "You sure clean up nice."
"If you're going to be rude, I'm not going to bother wasting my time talking to you." I began to walk away.
"No wait. I'm kidding. Come on Rose." Axel laughed heartily and stood in front of me blocking my way. I just shot him daggers.
To be honest I was glad that Axel was here because at least there was one person I could talk to normally and have a simple conversation without being awkward.
Axel was wearing a navy blue thick jumper with the collar of a white shirt sticking out at the top and un-tucked at the bottom. He wore a pair of black jeans and black and black converses. Well I guess it was impossible for him to look too smart, might ruin his bad boy image.
"If you're looking for Dixson, he's-"
"Not coming. I got a text from him saying that, and I quote, 'Why go to this stupid tea party when I could stick pins in my eyes and have the same experience.'."
"What a lovely image." I said sarcastically.
"How do you think I felt when I read it? That guy has no consideration about other people feelings." Axel put his hand on his heart and acted hurt.
"You sound like his mother or something."
"Do you know what, sometimes I feel like I'm the mother of the group."
We both laughed and I realised, Axel wasn't half bad when you have a normal conversation with him. I guess he had his moments like everyone else.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" Axel said taking a sip of apple juice from the champagne shape glass.
"Who says I'm thinking hard about anything?"
"Because you always have that look when you're concentrating really hard to figure out an answer or to work something out. Ive seen you do it in class a lot."
I looked at him dubiously. "You watch me in class?"
He scoffed, "No but it's impossible to miss someone who has their mouth hanging wide open with the expression of a clueless idiot."
"Hey, that is not true! I don't do that!" I exclaimed.
"Did you know the guy?" Axel suddenly said changing the subject looking intently at someone.
"Guy?" I followed his gaze. "Oh, Edward Darlston?"
Damn he changed the subject so fast I didn't get ask him about the fact that he watches me in class.
"So he's already introduced himself." Axel spoke with a hint of disgust.
"I don't know him properly, but he seemed like a nice guy." I shrugged carelessly.
"Nice guy? Wow I guess you fell for charms like any other girl did."
I frowned, "What?"
Axel sighed, "Don't be so naive Rose. Stay away from him. He's not the type of character you'd want to hang around with. Knowing you, you'd easily get sucked into his lies. And by the looks of it you already have."
I started getting that rising flame from the bottom of my stomach, "Who are you to say that? Telling me who I should talk to and not talk to. I thought you could be nice Archer."
