Just one minute, Dongmin told himself.

Just one minute until school was out, and he was okay to stop studying, stop staying up all night to finish the stack of assignments he was given only one day to complete. Finally, he was okay to sneak out of his house and go see Moonbin, even at the most obscene times of night.

At last, after months of waiting, there was only one minute until summer vacation.

Oh.

Fifteen seconds now.

Dongmin thought time had never gone slower. He eyed the clock with such disgust, such utter displeasure as it seemed that time slowed in its already sloth-like pace. Slowly, then slower, then even slower the seconds went. One by one. Tick by tick.

The long-awaited bell rang throughout the classroom.

He didn't waste yet another second before jumping out of his plastic seat. He grabbed his bag from off the floor and hurriedly swung it over his shoulder, not caring if he bumped into anyone as he raced to the door. He didn't have the chance to hurry down the hall and surprise his best friend like he had planned to, though, as it seemed that Moonbin had had the same idea. "Aww, come on," he groaned, approaching his friend who stood by the classroom entryway, waiting for him. His dark hair was disheveled, his cheeks pink with fatigue; Dongmin guessed that he had sprinted down the hallway to make it to the classroom on time. "How do you manage to beat me every time?"

Moonbin, feeling light and happy that it was finally summer time, slid his arm around Dongmin's shoulder and grinned. "It's a secret."

Dongmin just rolled his eyes, hiding his smile within the slight curl of his lips. "Uh-huh." He had the urge to push Moonbin's arm off his shoulder, but he didn't.

He couldn't.

From the moment they met for the first time, from the moment they became friends, he had always tried to avoid having any physical contact with his friend, yet there were still moments where Moonbin had scooted close to him, close enough that their shoulders were brushing, and each time he pulled away. He was observant enough to know that he was hurting Moonbin with every second he spent keeping himself at a distance, and he hated himself for it.

There were only certain times where the regret he felt for hurting his friend built itself up like building blocks, pushing him to accept the brushing shoulders and touching thighs, and that was when the two were laying in the wilted grass, eyes pointed up towards a dark, star-lit sky.

They had no idea when it started, but one cold night they found themselves sneaking out of the window in Moonbin's bedroom to go and sit in the grass, illuminated by the dim moonlight.
