Fake Your Death

Ten Years Later

I plugged my headphones into my phone and put my playlist on shuffle.  I smiled a bit when I realized that Fake Your Death was playing.  I remember ten years ago when I wrote this song with my dad and his old band.  I played the piano, even though I didn't know how at the time.  My mom taught me and I practiced day and night until I got it right.  I also kept up on my guitar playing.  Ray and Frank gave me lessons whenever I had time, and I was improving fast.  I still play guitar today.

I was walking back from the grocery store in the cold, when I realized that I forgot to get ice cream.  I pulled my cell out of my pocket and texted my go-to to ask if she would pick some up on her way here.

I walked into my apartment and set the table for nine people.  Then I started to put two frozen pizzas in the oven.  It was the only thing that I could cook withought burning or undercooking.

There was a knock on the door.  The door opened befor I could awnser it.  I knew who it was, because there was only one person that used my spare key that I hid under the mat.

"Hey Jamie," I called, "Did you bring the ice cream?"

"You bet!" She said as she lifted a plastic bag.

She was wearing a silver cocktail dress that  swayed just above her knees.  I was wearing a black lace dress that had a short poofy skirt.   Lyn-z got me this dress for my twentieth birthday, I was suprised that it still fit.  The food that I had prepared for dinner definitely didn't match the dress code, but it didn't really matter.

A few minutes later there was another knock on the door, and I went and awnsered it. On the other side of the door was the love of my life, Aphrodite.  I met her seven years ago in my senior year of high school, when I started working at hot topic.  She had a pixie cut with the tips died pink.  She was about an inch shorter than I was, which made for perfect hugs.  She was wearing a red strapless dress with roses on it, which made me blush.

"Hi babe," She said as I kissed her on the cheek.

"Hey Aph, you look stunning," I said with a giggle.

"Thanks, so do you," She said with a smile, "let me guess, did you make frozen pizza again?"

"You know me so well." I said through a laugh.

"You couldn't try to make anything fancier?  I mean, your whole family is coming over tonight and it's the last time that your gonna see them in a while." Pouted Aph.

"Well, actually, we got ice cream!" Jamie Yelled from the kitchen.

                       "Hi Jamie!" Aph called back.

A few years ago I realized that Jamie would never love me back in the way that I wanted her to love me.  I started to get over her, and then I met Aphrodite.  Jamie and I got way closer as friends.  Closer than we had ever been at the orphanage.  Aph never really got jealous of Jamie and i's relationship, because Jamie had a boyfriend that I could tell she really loved.

Ten minutes later, there was another knock on the door.  I opened it, and was greeted with a big hug.  "H-Hi d-dad.  I c-can't breathe."  Gerard's hugs were so tight that it felt like my lungs were being crushed.

"But I haven't seen you in so long!"  He pouted.

"I LITERALLY SAW YOU TWO DAYS AGO."  I said

"That's a looong time." He said with puppy dog eyes. "It's like fourteen days in dog years."

"I don't think that's how it works, Gee." Said Lyn-z, who was behind Gerard.  Right behind Gerard and Lyn-z was Ray, Frank and Mikey.  Them all coming at the same time means that they all had to squeeze in a car together, which made me giggle.

It's funny how they all looked literally the same as they did ten years ago.  The only difference is that Lyn-z cut her hair short and Gerard's hair was now dyed bright orange.  Lyn-z was wearing a beautiful purple evening gown and the rest of the guys were in suits.  Well, everyone except frank, who was in a t-shirt and black ripped jeans.  It didn't really bother me though, I expected nothing less from Frank.

Half an hour later we had all finished dinner and dessert, so I poured everyone a glass of wine.  Then Gerard stood up.

"I would like to make a toast in honor of my daughter Delilah," Said Gerard, "She has changed my life in so many ways, and if it wasn't for her, then I wouldn't be in the place I am now.  I would still be a music-less hermit that was too afraid of the world.  Over the past ten years, we released Fake Your Death, Frank, Ray and I started solo careers, and Mikey joined Electric Century.  Our lives are going great right now, thanks to you.  That's why I'm so happy that Pete Wentz signed your band, Delilah, because now you can live an amazing, music-filled, life.  You've grown so much from the time I first met you.  Your guitar playing has improved, your confidence has been boosted, and you've grown as a person.  Music brings you so much joy, and now you can bring that joy to other people.  I'm going to miss you while your on tour with your band, Color Bind, But I know that you will be having the best time of your life.  Good luck Delilah,  your going to do great things for this world."

I was in tears.  I stood up and hugged my dad.  Then, Lyn-z joined the hug.  Shortly after, everyone else was a part of this group hug.

"I'm so happy to have a family like you.  Without you all, I would have never gotten this far.  Thanks everyone."  I said.

After a minute of hugging each other in awkward silence, Ray Said "So, how long are we gonna do this for, because I brought The Ring over, and the last time I watched it I only screamed like seven times."

"I bet you won't get less than that," I challenged

"Your on!" He Replied as we all walked to the living room.

We all squeezed onto the small, four person couch so we could watch The Ring, my all time favorite movie.
