10:39pm
static lies in the slides
as wetness piles upon swings' seats
the chains rattle against the poles
as you sit on the jungle gym
dangling your feet
you're completely alone
as rain falls down
for your curly head to drink
you breathe in the familiar air
as the droplets dance upon your cheeks
you have been here before
as a young sprout
a weed in the midst of screaming lillies
school bells and traffic sounds
drown out your self pity
children tease as you pucker your lips
and tears stream down your face
whistle blows and the line takes form
as you take the very last place
flash forward
you are twelve years old
you kiss your best friend on the cheek
you clatter your feet against the sidewalk
as you sigh in utter defeat
their words swim laps inside your head
as you hold the necklace to your chest
you sit on the empty jungle gym
as tears paint your face a shade of red
months go by
and years surpass
as you walk the familiar mulch at last
and you crawl in your spot on the jungle gym
the darkness of night finds its way in
so the rain dances harder
as you hold to the pole
never has it been sadder
the sense of home
tears mixed with salt and forbidden rain drops
as you remember the first love
you ever lost
