Chapter 3: A Showdown

Seeing Xu Mei’s ‘horrified’ face, Xu Ming slightly knitted his brows together.

After a brief interval of this strange silence, Xu Ming slowly squatted down to be the same level as the little girl.

Due to this action of his, Xu Mei finally snapped back to her sense and began to retreat back out of reflex but stopped when the same voice sounded out once again.

‘’Run again?’’

Hearing this, Xu Mei was startled and didn’t know what to say besides staring fixedly at the ground.

‘’If you have nothing to say, I will be going then.’’

Xu Ming put down this sentence while getting up preparing to go back but he hasn’t even taken a single step yet when his jacket suddenly got tugged causing him to look over.

‘’W-wait….I-’’’

Xu Mei stuttered in a panic since she didn’t know what to say, she just involuntarily grabbed her mother’s jacket out of fear that she would be gone.

She thought that her mother might get annoyed by her stupidity but to her surprise even after another short while has passed, her mother was still patiently waiting for her to speak without raising her voice like in the past so her nerve gradually relaxed and she finally mustered the courage to say something,’’Are you leaving?’’

Xu Ming was not surprised once he heard her question so he softly hummed in agreement.

‘’When will you come back?’’

When? Never.

But Xu Ming was not so heartless enough to reply something like this so he instead asked,’’Don’t you hate me?’’

After putting down this question, he felt the grip on his jacket tightened as the little girl slightly lowered her head then softly mumbled,’’...I don’t hate you because you are my mother…’’

‘’Xu Mei.’’

Hearing her name being called out, Xu Mei lifted up her little face to look at him.

‘’Don’t be too fixed up on someone like this. You have a lot of people that genuinely care for you.’’

He then awkwardly lifted his hand to pat her head as he added,’’Live a happy life.’’

At this moment, Xu Mei unblinkingly stared at him. She knew that her mother was being super serious with her speech but she just could not get into the mood with her at all….

It was all that hello kitty’s mask fault.

However, it was undeniable that Xu Mei was more relaxed due to seeing him wearing this mask so she curiously asked,’’Where are you going?’’

Xu Ming patiently answered,‘’I need to make a trip to somewhere.’’

‘’Can I go with you?’’

Xu Ming gave a helpless sigh,’’No.’’

Xu Mei suddenly became teary as she asked,’’Do you hate me because I’m not a boy?’’

Hearing this, Xu Ming was momentarily stunned but he knew what she meant by this.

Really...That woman.

He quickly appeased her,’’No, I have to go because of my job.’’

‘’Really?’’

Xu Ming nodded his head in return causing the little girl to smile.
