23. babysitting

kinda cliché but who cares?

Jaemin wakes up to a child’s crying sounds followed by loud cackles in the morning. He rubs his eyes, listens attentively for a while and quickly jumps off the bed, curious to see what’s going on. He walks down the stairs at fast pace and freezes with wide eyes and mouth agape.

Jeno is running around the kitchen, chasing a small boy of two years, who is trying to escape him, throwing food at the poor guy and making grimaces. The room looks as if a group of pigs were let in – a mess of food, chairs, dishes and other utensils lying everywhere around.

“Whaat the-“, the honey haired boy observes his surroundings unable to blink or shut his gaping mouth.

“Jaemin, catch him! Jaemin, I said catch that parasite!”, Jeno shouts in a hoarse voice.

The said boy remains dumbfounded for some seconds but complies afterwards, dashing to the kid with arms spread widely. They try to catch the boy, but the kiddo is like a quiddich ball, rocketing from one side of the room to another throwing food and utensils at the two.

“Kiss my ass, you hoes!”, he shouts loudly and throws an apple at Jaemin, which unluckily hit him in the eye.

The boy screams from pain, covering his aching eye.

“AAAAAAH, SHETTT!!! JENO FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU WHO THE HELL IS THIS SATAN, MY FUCKING EYE, DIE BITCHES DIE”

The older bites his knuckles with the most pathetic face looking at his friend lying on the floor in pain, but destructive fury replaces it at instant.

“CATCH MY FISTS, TINY JERK!”, he growls like an animal and jumps onto the child in a run, consequently knocking him down.

The little demon tries to get out of his grip, biting his hand hard. Jeno screams but doesn’t let go sitting on top of him and pinning the child’s hands to the ground.

“Jinhyun, I wanna throw you out the window so much, but I won’t. Imma call the doctor instead and ask him to cut off your nose and wiener!”

He pins the boy’s hands above his head, holding them with one hand while the other hand dials Jaehyun.
The older greets his brother cheerfully from the other line,

“Jeno-yaaah, my baby!”, Jaehyun turns the loudspeaker mode on, facing his roommate in the dorm, “Say hi to Taeyong-hyung!”

“Hello mister doctor, we have a patient here, whose wiener should be cut off for misbehaving too much!!! Send nurses and tie the sick bitch!!”

Jeno hangs up and the two boys stare at each other wide-eyed, especially Jaehyun, who turns red from shame.

“I’m-“

Taeyong approaches him clumsily and kisses his boyfriend's cheek trying to be casual,

“Never mind, babe”

The three boys are sitting on the sofa while Jihyun is happily watching “Ladybug&Supercat”, Jeno is carefully wiping Jaemin’s bloody red eye with a tissue and the latter is just pouting and scrunching his nose in pain now and then.

“Don’t worry Jaemin-ah, I called the doctor, he’s gonna check your eye AND CUT OFF SOMEONE’S WIENER”, the way his tone changes as he mentions the child at the end is like a rollercoaster. He mumbles softly at the beginning but ends up shouting. Jinhyun sticks his tongue out at them making Jaemin cringe.

“I can’t believe he’s your nephew.. This little devil could leave me with one eye, I’m freaking scared”,
he clutches Jeno’s arm and clings on him, worriedly staring at the child.

The doctor arrives soon and looks around the house in shock, since it looks like there has been a nuclear explosion.

“Your eye’s gonna recover in just a week, don’t worry. Don’t forget to use these drops twice a day and always wear the eyepatch”

The boy gasps and whines as Jeno fixes his eyepatch,
“Wait, but we have to perform in just three days.. I’m gonna look like a stupid pirate, oh god!”

Jeno frowns looking at the child, who’s nonchalantly eating his cosmostars cereal.

“Mr Doctor, before you leave, I should kindly ask you to warn that guy to behave properly, otherwise we’ll have to call for your assistants”

The man raises his eyebrows and clears his throat,
“Yes, indeed, if he tries to misbehave I’ll have my nurses ready to bring him to the hospital”

The kid stares at them arrogantly for a moment and continues eating.

Jinhyun tugs at Jaemin’s pants while the boys are trying to clean the mess he made.

“Jaemin-hyung”, the baby softly utters rubbing his eye sleepily, “I wanna sleep”

The said boy looks at him with a little frown, still pissed for his injury.

“Then go sleep”

The baby pouts tugging at him again, “I pissed my pants, Jaemin-hyung”

The older rolls his eyes, throwing the cloth in his hand on the kitchen table,
“But why don’t you ask Jeno?”

The baby smiles at him giggling,
“Uncle Jeno is a douchebag, I like you more”

The honey-haired finally gives in holding the child’s tiny hand,
“Do you always injure the ones you like?”

The little devil keeps grinning and the older can’t help smiling back.

Jaemin changes the baby into clean clothes and the latter wraps his hands around the older’s neck.

“I wanna sleep”

They go to the bedroom and Jaemin lays the baby down, covering his body with a blanket.

“Jaemin-hyung, sing me to sleep”

The older purses his lips staring at him,
“But I can’t sing”

The baby hugs him tight and looks into his eyes plaintively,
“Pleeease”

The older puffs out his cheeks annoyedly, “Fine”

The baby closes his eyes smiling happily.

Jaemin takes a deep breath and starts to sing in the softest voice possible,

“City of stars..are you shining just for me..”

At this moment Jeno peeks at the slightly opened door and beams, touched by the adorable scene. He keeps listening to Jaemin’s sweet voice until the latter dozes off mumbling the lyrics incoherently.

Jeno cautiously enters the room and sits on the bed. He pulls the blanket upon Jaemin and gazes at the two with a little smile. He turns towards the door but then looks back at Jaemin one more time and leans in to kiss the boy’s forehead tenderly before leaving the room.
