Chapter 5

"Out of the frying pan and into the fire cadets, time to put your training to work! I have faith that every one of you will be a credit to your regiment!" the dispatcher yelled "Here we go" Sarah said  as the three of you geared up and headed out to be given your orders by the head garrison "I want everyone split into four squadrons as practiced! All squadrons are responsible for supply running, message relay, and enemy combat under the command of the garrison regiment! The inner south squadron will be taking the vanguard, cadets will be taking the middle guard lead by the support squad, rear guard will go to the elites! I expect you all to man your post knowing the advanced team has been wiped out!" the head garrison said which surprised everyone except your group "That's right! The outer gate is history, the titans are in! This means that the armored titan is likely to reappear, if and when he does the inner gate will also be history!" the head continued which caused some cadets to murmur about the situation "Quiet!!! Right, those in the vanguard be ready!! The whole area is well known and saturated! Your mission is a very simple one, defend the wall until the evacuation is done! Now, be aware all of you that desertion is punishable by execution, if it comes down to it LAY DOWN YOUR LIVES, DISMISSED!" "Sir!" the cadets saluted before they started scrambling. You saw Jean and Eren arguing and you thought it was in everyone's best interest to break it up so you walked over to them with Sarah and Daisy "I was one day shy of shipping off to the MP!" "Jean get ahold of yourself!" you said intervening and pushing him against the wall behind him "We were trained for this, that's what the last three years were all about!" you yelled at him making him go wide eyed "We went through hell and lived Jean, not everyone can say that. Some people got kicked out or ran away. hell some people even died, but we didn't did we?! We went through all that bullshit for three years, what's to say one more day will be different? I have faith in you Jean, I know you can do this, and tomorrow the MP will be waiting for you" you said to him before releasing your grip on his jacket "You're...you're right, thank you (F/N)" he said before he walked off and got into soldier mode "ON YOUR FEET DAZ, STOP BALLING!" Daisy gave you a soft smile "That was real kind of you (F/N), I'm sure Jean appreciates that a lot" "I felt like I owed it to him" you said "He may be a hardass but he's a genuine guy with good intentions who's just scared, we've all been there before. I may have been tough on him a few times here and there but he has my respect" you finished your statement "Hoffman! Hicks! (L/N)!" You heard a shout as someone ran towards you who was revealed to be captain Cabrera with another blonde garrison member following him "Captain Cabrera sir!" you saluted with Daisy and Sarah "I've assigned you to my team at the rear guard, we deploy immediately" the three of you gave him shocked expressions before recomposing yourselves "Yes sir!" you saluted "Ackerman, you're with me. You've been assigned to the rear guard on special orders let's get moving" the blonde man said to Mikasa "But sir I-I'm a cadet! I'll slow everyone down!" Mikasa said to the man trying to reason with him "You're not being asked for a self evaluation here, the mass exodus is falling apart. We need as many elite soldiers as possible to get things back on track" he said before turning around and started to walk away "Sir with all due-" you didn't let her get another word out as you slapped her right across the face leaving a bright red mark on it and grabbed her collar "Listen to me you selfish bitch, Lives are at steak here! This is bigger than whatever personal problems you're having right now and no one gives a damn about what you want! You were given a direct order, so get some perspective and pull it together now!" you yelled sounding like a high ranking soldier "You're right...you're right I'm sorry, this whole thing just has me out of my head" she said sadly "You'll be fine, now get in gear and do your job. Come on we have to get moving" you said to her and the group before you started moving out. 

The rear guard was a mess, people were scrambling all over the place trying to get through the gate. The soldiers were stationed further up from it to intercept titans eventually two titans started to approach "Here they come" Sarah said getting into a serious mode, you put on an expressionless face and flipped your right blade in the air, catching it backhanded like usual "Alright, let's do this" you said concentrating on the titans "Hey kid! Didn't they teach you how to hold those things in training?!" a random garrison soldier yelled at you "Trust me, I'm holding them just fine" you said back to him "Tch whatever, don't be surprised when you fail at doing any damage" he said to you 'Oh he does not know who he's dealing with and if people's lives weren't on the line I'd give him a piece of my mind' you thought listening to the garrison's stupid comments, you'd show him soon enough. "So what's the plan (F/N)?" Sarah asked looking over at you "You guys take the one on the right, I'll get the one on the left while it's distracted" "Right" Daisy said "Alright let's make a game out of this, the person with the most kills gets bragging rights"Sarah said with a smirk on her face "You're on! Daisy yelled back at her with a look of confidence on her face and you just smirked, the three of you loved friendly competition amongst yourselves "We are cleared to engage! Move out!" now that captain Cabrera had given you the go ahead the three of you zipped off "I'm going for the legs! You go for the nape when it's open" Daisy yelled to Sarah "On it!" as the two of them neared their titan yours attemptedr to try to grab them 'I don't think so' you thought before you grunted and shot forward using your rotary technique and tore through its nape killing it instantly which earned you some surprise looks from the garrison elites not knowing what they had just witnessed 'Who's the dumb one now assholes' you smuggly thought seeing their reactions. As you landed you saw Daisy cut the titan's achilles tendon while Sarah cut the nape while it was down "And that's how it's done" Daisy said proudly as the blood evaporated off her clothes. "Score one for Sarah!" Sarah yelled celebrating her kill "With the help of Daisy" Daisy added. Just then a titan sped past her followed by four elites "After it! Don't let it reach the gates!" the captain yelled before your group and other soldiers took off, it took a bit of chasing but you finally caught up to the soldiers chasing the abnormal not far behind with Sarah and Daisy "It's so fast! How're we supposed to catch it!?" Sarah asked frantically "Leave it to me, maintain your current distance and save your fuel" you ordered them "But (F/N) you can't just-!" Daisy couldn't get her sentence out as you went off, you sped past the soldiers chasing him and shot your hook into his nape and let out a loud yell as you spun forward and sliced the nape, you stood on his head while he fell to the floor dead. After the dust settled you saw that everyone was still standing outside the gate. In the open. With a wagon stuck in the entrance. "Hey! What's going on here!?" you yelled "Couldn't have asked for better timing! Force these useless morons to push my wagon, I'll pay you handsomely!" an obtuse man yelled at you, the calm and collected look on your face was replaced with one of anger "Are you fucking serious?! My comrades are out there sacrificing their lives for you and DYING back there, and it's all cause this is taking too long!" after you said that Sarah and Daisy dropped by your side "Yeah that's their job! You expect me to shed a tear cause they gotta fulfill the duties they signed on for!? They're supposed to be WILLING to lay down their lives, don't get all high handed on me just cause you finally gotta earn your damn keep after all these years!" oh that was it, you were not gonna tolerate this kind of disrespect for a micro second longer. You elegantly flipped off the titan and started walking through the crowd "Yeah no arguing with that, you're absolutely right sir. Guess it's what you call the greater good. But still, it's not the life or death of a soldier that makes the biggest difference" you spat at him as Daisy and Sarah walked by your sides "Don't you even dare, your commander and I are all friends! One word from me and you'll be court martialed! Believe it!" he threatened as his grunts ran towards you. Daisy and Sarah easily took them down and restrained them clearing a way for you, after you walked to him you put your blades around his neck "Try telling him anything without a head" you said threateningly to him. After a few seconds of consideration and a suggestion from one of his other grunts he finally decided to make his men move the wagon. People started funneling through the gate to the other side and you watched over them as the crowd thinned out "You guys are amazing!" a little girl that was standing next to her mother said to your group "You saved our lives misses, all of us are in your debt" the mother said giving the three of you a quick bow, you sheathed your blades and gave them a strong salute before Sarah and Daisy joined you "Just doing our duty ma'am, there's no need to owe us anything" Sarah said said to the mother warmly. You walked up to the family and crouched dwon infront of the girl "What do you want to be when you grow up little one?" you asked her which made her eyes light up with joy "I wanna be a strong soldier like you!" she said ecstatically which made you giggle and smile "Well I'm sure you'll make an excellent soldier" you said to her "As long as you put your mind to it, anything is possible. Don't lose sight of what's important to you" the girl gasped and looked at you in pure bliss "I won't! I promise!" the little girl told you while her eyes glimmered. You gave the family one more salute and then walked off with Daisy and Sarah.
