"What's the difference between waffles and pancakes?"

Kwan looked up from her maths homework to shoot a curious look at her best friend, who looked earnest and serious, no hint of a joke on her face.

"Why?"

Jae shrugs.

"I just wanna know, coming from you."

Kwan thinks about it.

"Er, nothing?" Honestly she thinks the two were both the same.

Jae still gazes at her with wide eyes, before finally conceding and backing away.

"Why?"

Another unsure shrug.

"Nothing really."

Kwan eyes her carefully before nodding and letting it go. Huh.

Class starts and ends, and before she knew it Kwan was packing up her things to head to the bar.

She pauses.

The bar?

Again?

Eh, she found nothing wrong so she might as well.

"Jae?"

"Yeah?"

"Wanna come to the bar?"

Jae pauses in rifling through her clearbook.

"The bar?" She cocks her head to the side in confusion.

Kwan just nods, before elaborating with "You know, the one where your cousin goes to."

Recognition dawns on those orbs, and Jae's nodding along as she resumes fixing her things.

"Oh the one that bear goes to," she rephrases. She looks Kwan in the eye. "Mian, not today Kwan. But tell him hi."

With a smile, she was off.

Time seemed to move so fast.

She found herself seated yet again, having ordered iced tea and noodles.

Once again, the lights glow softer, and Jin was standing in the middle, carrying himself with this confidence that Kwan envied. Where does he get such confidence?

"Good evening folks," he greets with a wave. "Okay so you guys know there are three modes of transport in a mall right?"

The crowd murmured among themselves, wondering what he was talking about.

"We've got escalator, elevator, and you know the third one?"

Kwan's brows join. What is it?

"Calculator!"

And he laughs, high and squeaky.

There were a few chuckles from the audience.

Kwan gets it, and it wasn't that funny.

She sent him a questioning gaze, and she's surprised to see him meet gazes with her.

He raises both brows in question, and her own knit together to show her displeasure.

The smile fades a bit.

'I don't like it' she mouths, and he nods in understanding before turning to the audience.

Kwan makes to leave after eating, a little dissatisfied and frowning.

Jin hated that frown.

To top the bad day off, it was raining too.

Ahh, bummer.

But wait.

He hurries after her, umbrella in hand.

Kwan looks at it for a moment before taking it.

"I'm sorry you weren't amused by my joke. I'll try harder," he promises.

Kwan's confused.

He looks so serious now.

Why was he so adamant on making her laugh?

But she waves it off, bidding a short "Bye" before walking home.

Another corny joke by mee Im sorry
