It's almost midnight yet Sin Kwan is laying on her bed, unable to sleep.
She checks her clock again. It shows 11:57pm. Sigh...
She did her homework just fine. She was able to complete three more pages of her thesis, and she still had time to recite the whole table of elements.
Yet why wasn't she sleepy?
Should she quiz herself on the different trigonometric functions to fall asleep too?
Agitated and annoyed, she bounds from the bed, slipping on a thick sweater and some comfy shoes before deciding to walk around in the dead of Friday night.
"I'm the one I should love in this world
Bitnaneun nareul sojunghan nae yeonghoneul
Ijeya kkaedara so I love me
Jom bujokhaedo neomu areumdaun geol
I'm the one I should love"Unknowingly, she let her feet lead the way, and when she snapped back she's honestly not surprised to find herself in the bar near Jae's house.
Sighing, she goes inside.
It's easy access nowadays since the guard was familiar with her.
It's more quiet than usual. There's less people too, and the atmosphere seemed lazy than most days.
Kwan walks around before sitting on a high stool, loving the feeling of being higher and the way her legs dangled off the seat.
A man then walks over to take her order.
"Just a glass of root beer."
"Make that two please."
Kwan turns, alarmed and wide-eyed, before her guard lowers to see a very familiar face.
Kim Seokjin sits beside her with a grunt, and Kwan had the notion to tease him for his age.
But they were the same age so never mind.
"What brings you here Sin Kwan?"
She shrugs, playing with her fingers. "Couldn't sleep."
"Missed my handsome face?" He grins at her playfully.
Kwan's own face crumpled.
"Not really. We just saw each other two days ago."
He nods, as if taking it in. "Fair point." But then he grins, and Kwan could only brace herself. "But who wouldn't love my face? I'm Worldwide Handsome!" he exclaims this with such joy that he spreads his arms.
Kwan could only nod and smile sarcastically.
They settle into a comfortable silence, before their drinks were served.
"I have to commend you Kwannie," he says after downing his glass. Kwan couldn't explain the sudden lurch of her heart at the nickname. "I think I know why you haven't been smiling when you were younger."
Kwan's interested. Oh? He does? They don't know each other in a personal level yet Seokjin's confident of having found out her past.
She leans her head on her hand, interest piqued.
"Oh? Do tell."
The answer was short and concise.
"You're a perfectionist."
The cool look dissolves into one of shock. Was it really that?
He continues "All your life, you're so focused on school work and making your parents proud that on the way you forgot your own happiness and joy that you enclosed yourself in this little bubble, never to be touched by anyone.
"You forgot to treat and pamper yourself. You focused too much on studies that sometimes, it's so hard to find your funny bone and make you laugh."
He ends this with a cool look in his eyes, gazing intently into Kwan's own for any confirmation or denies.
There were none.
She just stared back, and whispered "You think so?" He nods silently. "I think I've known it for a long time, but it had to be you to confirm my doubt."
More silent staring.
"When's the best way for a fly to fly?"
Another joke? Sigh... oh well she can take it.
"When?"
She can feel herself grinning.
"When the spider spies it!"
And the long wooden table shakes, the people looking to see Kim Seokjin hitting the table again and again while laughing.
He doesn't fail to notice that she was laughing too.
Ahh, joy.
Why must such a pretty laugh be contained in such a stoic expression?
I read the joke from my Addendum agh its like an Eng magazine. Lyrics from google yeh
