Chapter 24
Packing doesn't take long. It turns out Keri sent a message for Killen to pack for me. Killen knows where all my stuff is. All that was required of was to pick up any weapons I deemed suitable enough. I decided on my new crossbow which I stuffed in my trunk with all my stuff. (There was room since I didn't own many clothes) I am carrying my bow on my person. Along with the countless knives. A girl can never have too many.
We stand in front of the waterfall, our other teleporters preparing one large portal to bring us as close as possible to the kingdom without causing suspicion.
I've changed already, not clothing wise, but physically. I choose a subtle look, lighter skin, flat black hair, skinnier than my current self, very, very plain features. With the most basic brown eyes. Nobody would remember me. Nobody would recognize me.
Amanda is with us, but she's restless and flittering between talking with us and the princess. We cut her hair shorter, in a style that hides parts of her face, and Grey painted on a few freckles. Killen is wearing the brown wig that he despises, but I managed to wrestle it onto his head. Grey is wearing a black wig a huge contrast to her white hair. And Keri, Keri is giving orders. I'm not really paying attention, and I doubt anybody is.
She and the other Trainers will be joining us after I make my big "announcement" and my speech for the gathering Rebels. Right when I make my first big stand against the Monarchies. This is where the fights would really start, the rest of this was just the Prologue, this the beginning. The first page starts here, and the rest of the chapters follow.
Despite not looking forward to my future, the excitement of going on a mission traveled through my veins. I ached to be able to ride, to fight, to just do something. Going on missions was fun, it was a job, a task, a challenge. And no matter who you were, when you are brought up in the Death Clan challenges are what you live for.
We were raised to be strong, to enjoy the pain. To find strength within it.
"Symon!" I hear Keri's voice snap at me. "Do you understand?"
"Yes, ma'am." I nod my head even though I wasn't paying attention to her.
"Then repeat what I said," She challenges me.
I then perform an act that I have mastered over the years. It is my insane ability to be able to repeat whatever the Trainor was saying when I was not giving them any of my attention. I am special and I am lucky to have this skill.
"You said that we are to leave right now and that we must remain discrete. You said that the princess will go ahead and we are to arrive not an hour earlier than her. My group will be off to start whispers of the Ghost Queen in the poor areas gather strength from the minorities. We are to stay in the cheapest hotels and keep to ourselves, basic training. After that, we leave to the kingdom where the night before the meeting I am to show up in a public spot and challenge the prince, after that, I disappear for the next few days. You come back and we start putting our next attack in action."I meet her eyes, and raise my brow, "Am I missing anything?"
She blinks, I caught her off guard, but she fixes herself quickly. "I don't believe so," She grimaces and I fight off a smirk, I don't think I've ever enjoyed seeing her this uncomfortable before. It's fun. "but are you ready, Ghost Queen?"
And now I am suddenly the cynosure, all the attention is pointed at me. I look at Keri her smirk conveying an obvious message, two can play at this game.
I keep my voice level and my head up high, my body is not frozen, but it certainly isn't slouching. I fight what I would rather do in this situation, and let my training go on overdrive. "I believe I am."
