Stokeley
"Come in."I heard from behind the door after knocking. I turned the doorknob going in. The middle aged woman smiled seeing me.

"You asked for me?"I sat down in front of her. She nodded the smile still on her face. She handed me a red Styrofoam cup. I already knew what was in it. My mint water.

"Yes Stokeley. How are you today?"I cringed at the name. Every time I hear that name it reminds me of how I failed. Stokeley was a failure. He failed the very people that mattered the most to him.

"Martha you know damn well not to call me that."I said taking a sip of my water. She laughed slightly shaking her head. She then sighed giving me that motherly look she first gave me when she met me.

"I know. I know. I just like to see your irritated face."she chuckled. I rolled my eyes but discreetly.

"Yeah aight. Why am I here though? Its not for my session?"I was puzzled by her summoning me here. She sat up straight.

"Right. Well called here for a special reason."she said. My eyebrows shot the sky and I nodded for her to continue as I quietly sipped my water." Hmmmm are you ready to go home?"she asked. My movements stopped for a second then I slowly lowered my drink resting it on the armrest of my seat.
"I know that your time here isn't done yet. You only been here for five months but I can promise you that I never seen an alcoholic who recovered so quickly."she smiled brightly at the last sentence. "Thats why I wonna grant you permission to head on home early. I have faith that you won't relapse but if you do i'll be there. Basically its just like monitoring you from outside. Kind of a probation situation. You'll be free to interact with your loved ones and even pick up on your career."she cheesed even harder.

My face remained neutral as I took in every word. I played with my drink as my mind raced. Memories of my life before I can here flooded my mind. The kind of darkness that engulfed me at that time. The day I came here however everything changed. Some light was shed into my soul. Everything was slowly but surely brightening.

Everything will be okay daddy

I looked up at Martha who was patiently awaiting my answer. "No."I said simply making her frown. "My answer is NO. I don wonna go home just yet."I said. I drowned the rest of the water before placing the cup down on the table in front of me.

"Shylin?"she asked with a knowing look in her eyes. I nodded slightly. "You have really become attached to that young girl haven't you?"she asked softly. I looked up at the ceiling sinking further in my seat. Attached? Maybe. One thing I know is that that girl needs me. She was supposed to have left the institution a week ago but something happened. She received news of her elder brother's death. The only family she had left in the world. On top of that Kentrell didn't reciprocate her feelings. I had to beat that nigga up for toying with her feelings for a whole two months only to get into her pants! Niggas ain't shit. Now Shylin is all broken again and they were sure of she left for the outside she would only resolve to drugs again. I didn't want that for her. She is too young and deserves a future. A bright one at that.

"She is my lil gurl Martha. She needs me."I finally spoke turning my attention to her. She nodded leaning forward.

"I understand Clevon. What about your family? Don't they miss you? You should contact them at least so you won't spend time in the library when others get visits."her voice carried sympathy. They're better off without me.
