13 - unspoken thoughts

There are echos. Echos in a huge gymnasium is unheard of because it's so big. But still, there are echos. This could only be made possible because everyone is absolutely screaming their heads off right now, either from relief or regret. Everyone immediately jumped from their seats when the buzzer declared its last announcement that the game finished. They won.

Sorry, I made a mistake. Everyone except for Y/N is celebrating right now.

— Y/N'S FRIENDS —

"Y/N! Wait!" Irene yells towards a fleeing Y/N, however to no avail because all anyone can hear right now is the muffled exclaims of relief from the crowd. Her yell was completely covered; if one screamed towards the sky during a thunder storm they would probably achieve the same result.

Y/N leapt from the bleachers, in an attempt to escape the burning unwelcome spotlight that was put on her, immediately after the crowd went wild; she didn't even see the result of the game.

As Yeri began to chase after her, all the while awkwardly clapping and whooping for the team, the rest of their group began questioning Seulgi.

"Gurl! Was that really necessary?" Irene chided. "Yes it was! Honestly I've been holding it in ever since I heard the rumors that demon woman have been spreading." Seulgi points at a carelessly cheering Ji-hyun. She stares at her with furious eyes and clenched fists, trying to remember what her friends told her about being the better person. "Remember what we said about being the better pers—" "Yea yea I remember." Seulgi cuts Joy off curtly. Seulgi sighs. "I remember." She repeats softly.

"But you guys have heard what she's been saying right? I don't think it's unjustified, what I did I mean." The others give Seulgi an eh-kind-of look. Seulgi readjusts her stance, looking firmer and more serious. "What she's been saying is not just some stupid middle school rumor that is obviously made up upon first hearing. She's been saying some carefully curated things that are really serious. Relationship destroying stuff. I can't be the only one thinking this!"

— JIMIN —

As soon as Y/N got up from her seat and started heading towards the exit, instead of joining the jumping team huddled together and celebrating their victory, Jimin got up and started fast-walking in Y/N's direction, all the while not losing sight of her.

He follows her until they're far enough away from the crowds of students to talk privately. He hesitates to call out to her, tell her to stop and tell him what happened, when she makes a sharp left turn and hides behind a vending machine. Jimin stops in his tracks, momentarily perplexed by her action. She's hiding. He thinks. He hears a quiet thump around the corner of the machine and sees the tips of Y/N's feet pointing out on the floor; she just sat down. His shoulders drop slightly and he wonders what to do next. Suddenly his eyes widen and he quickly shuffles away.

— Y/N'S FRIENDS —

Back in the gym, the girls seem to have finished their chat with Seulgi and are sitting in silence, when an out of breath Yeri trots up to the group. "I lost her." Yeri pants. She straightens up in her pose, catching her breath. "Damn that girl is fast." She sits down beside a sulking Seulgi and puts her arm around her. "How are you doing?" Seulgi shrugs weakly. "Meh" she manages. Joy moves to the side of Yeri and catches her up "She's not gonna say anything to Ji-hyun anymore. We gave her the lecture about being the better person again. She's just adjusting to it now." Joy hushes in Yeri's ear.

"Where's Y/N?" Seulgi's head quickly turns to Yeri. "Ah, sorry I lost her. She was really fast, I don't know where she went."

"I have to go apologize!" Seulgi's about to stand up when Wendy puts a calming hand on her shoulder. "I think it's best to leave her be right now."
