Ash's POV.
"Does being royalty ever get boring?" Luke asked while pushing away some vines.
We were traveling down route 22 to find some good places to train with Greninja.
"Definitely," I replied. "Not when I'm with Serena, though."
"You enjoy wearing gloves? I'd hate doing that. Suits never suit me, either," Luke chuckled.
"Yeah, I hate the clothing part. I'm not sure if Serena enjoys it or not. She always acts typical around me, creative and cheerful, but when she's out talking to other people, it looks like she really enjoys getting in those high heels," I admitted.
"I bet she doesn't. She just wants to show a good image for you," Luke explained. "Trust me, I can tell. Your main goal is just to get out of the kingdom to kill Lysandre, isn't it?"
"Well, of course it is, that's why we came in the first place," I replied.
Luke stopped walking and looked at me.
"Just know that your family is glad you're here. Sure, I might not be related to you, but the fact that you're making my long lost niece happy is all I need from you to consider you a part of my family as well," Luke sighed. "Your father and I were best friends, Ash. I basically considered him my brother."
"But now he's gone," I replied, biting my lip. "Yeah, I know. I never got to see him."
"He was a good person," Luke added.
We walked down the trail in silence.
"Well, how did you and Serena meet?"
"Oh, we met in Pallet Town's school," I explained.
"Ashborne High?"
"In actual ashes," I completed. "Got blown up, if you didn't hear."
"Is that how Riley died?" Luke asked.
"He died from gunshot wounds. Lysandre killed him with a gun. He almost killed us, he invaded our school," I explained. "No one in Ora knows about that part, though."
"Right." Luke nodded. "About the royalty thing, I brought up that topic for a reason. You're probably wondering what'll happen to Serena if Will dies, and your assumptions are correct, she'd become a queen."
"So she wouldn't be able to come on our quest if he dies when we're gone?" I asked.
Luke just shrugged. "That's up to her."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, she can either stay and help her people, the people of the aura," Luke started. "...or, she can leave. Royalty can change the laws, you know. Will made that stupid rule of only leaving the kingdom once per week."
