As Friday morning came, most of the JV team wandered the halls. It had been discussed and spoken about on who would stay with Leia. Her parents both had to work, so that meant Michael was left to watch her. Her parents had slept at the hospital overnight, but left early in the morning to get ready for work. Michael and Leia were both asleep in the hospital room. Leia had been moved upstairs because she wasn't in need of emergency care no more. He was asleep in a small lounge chair while his mother had the couch and his father had a regular chair, and Leia was asleep in the bed. The covers were pulled up over her head and she was in a ball.
Mr. and Mrs. Fox were advised before they left from the doctor and nurses about Leia's condition. They explained what to do with her and how Leia was to be when she left the hospital. For the first few nights and every time she has a nap, she was is to be woken every hour or so, to assure everything is all right and that none of her symptoms have worsened or that she received new ones. She wasn't allowed to do any sports and she was told not to read and take it easy.
Rest was the treatment she had. Leia was not a kid to sit around and do nothing, she was constantly moving. She did hockey three times a week, she worked out often and ran. Now she was pretty much bedridden until then. Slowly, she was able to get back to sports, but it she'd have to be symptom free for twenty four hours and she could only get back to sports at a slow pace.
Michael had awoken and glanced around the room, there was a little bit of light coming from the blinds and the light from the hallway entered through the open the door. The nurse had turned the light on next to Leia's large white bed, where she woke Leia up quietly and careful not to spoke her. She had a headache the entire night, but as the hours were getting longer and further from the time of her injury, some other symptoms were coming. The nurses had to watch because the symptoms were different with every patient and some were similar, but not usually the same.
Stretching, Michael sat up and yawned. "You wouldn't mind if I went for a walk?" He asked the nurse, who looked over at him and shook her head. "Thank you."
He checked the time and wondered who he was going to call. he assumed his parents didn't call the school to allow them to know that Leia wasn't going to be in all day. So, he pondered who would be best: Charlie or Adam. Not completely being able to remember Adam's number made the choice easier as he knew Charlie's by heart. He dialed the number and waited.
He stood in the hall by the cafeteria on the first floor, tapping his foot against the ground as he eagerly waited. "Hello?" Charlie answered, it had taken him longer to get to the phone because his mother was busy cooking eggs and he had just gotten out of the shower. He walked out with a towel wrapped around his waist and was careful not to slip with his wet feet.
"Hey, Charlie, it's Michael."
He ran a hand through his hair. "Hey, Mike, how's everything?"
"All right. I just woke up. I don't think my parents called the school to say that Leia won't be there. You wouldn't mind telling the office for me?"
"Yeah, no problem. How is she?" He asked, wondering, but he kept the worry out of his voice. The entire team was worried, but Orion told the team not to worry and to remain focused on academics and hockey. He said he would get in touch to see how Leia was.
"Well," Michael started and looked down the hall, nodding to a nurse that sent him a smile and walked by. "She's sustained a head injury, so, right now she has to take an easy. But I wasn't informed on anything else. I might swing by the school later to get her homework."
"If it's easier, I can drop it off. Or Adam, he lives closer."
"I'd think it's best if you came over. She's got a fuzzy memory. She believed it was Monday yesterday because she said you guys had a game in three days."
He sighed and leaned against the wall, his mother walked by and hit his shoulder, telling him to hurry up, get dressed, and come and eat before he was late for school. "Tell her I hope she's well soon. I'll be by later, I gotta go. Bye Mike."
"Bye, thanks, Charlie."
He hung up and walked over to the cafeteria, grabbing something to eat. When he finished, he headed back upstairs to be with his sister, who fell back asleep after the nurses made sure she woke up and was feeling fine. She mentioned being nauseated, so they gave her a bucket in case she needed it. For now, Michael picked out what he was going to eat because everyone knew not all hospital food was good.
