Chapter 17
When we get to the safe house we are taken into a back room, there are several bulbs dangling from the ceiling. On one of the walls there is a large map, a map of the city, with markers all over it. Another wall has a chalkboard with a chart on it. One of the Erudite, Drake, looks closely at the map. "Those are population counts? And..factionless safe houses?" he asks. "Well Erudite you are right about the safe houses, as for the counts, the numbers only represent the divergent" Evelyn says. Lauren and I look at eachother. "So! Our plan is to destroy Erudite and once they are gone, we can run the government," Evelyn looks around at us "we want a society without factions." "No factions!" Maria interrupts "Wouldn't that cause chaos?" Evelyn looks over at her "Do we look like we're in chaos? Now look at the factions, destroying and fighting with one another. You all think the factions keep the peace, but then why did Dauntless soldiers attack Abnegation? Why is Erudite trying to control everything? There is no peace in the factions. The factions are chaos." Maria looks down embarrassed.
"So we need you Dauntless to go get us more weapons" Evelyn says as she looks at us, then to just Chris and I. "You two...you were Dauntless leaders weren't you?" We nod. "I saw both of you at the Abnegation attack, what makes you think I should trust you?" "Look things have changed since then! We've changed since then! We are on your side!" Chris says. "Vince! Go with them, make sure they don't take our information back to Erudite." A scruffy, old man steps fowardm he has a big build, surprising for how little they eat around here. "Well lets go!" he barks at us. Peter, Matt, Chris and I all head to Dauntless. The girls stay back with Loraine. When we get to Dauntless we use a different enterance. We gather all the guns, knives, ammo, and bulletproof vests we can find. We throw them all in a large tote and head back to the factionless. When we get back Lauren and the others are gathered around the fire. I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her. "Hey did you get the guns? she asks. "Guns and knives, I know how much you like those." She laughs. "So Evelyn was talking about having the attack next week once the others learn how to use the guns" she says. "We're gonna have alot of work to do then" I say. "Initiation all over again" we both laugh. We go to sleep and in the morning we gather in an abandoned building. We brought targets from Dauntless also to set up for the next week so we can teach them how to use both the guns and the knives. We also teach them physical combat. Then the day came, the day of the attack.
