"my dad's been a lawyer for as long as i can remember, so we don't see him a lot. he's pretty high up in the business. he comes home for holidays like christmas, and he used to make sure that he was around for my birthdays, but as you grow older i guess priorities change. i'm one of the ones at the bottom of the list now."

ashton watched as the colorful haired boy pressed his cigarette into the pavement with the bottom of his boot, crushing it entirely with his weight.

"he lives somewhere in america. flying home to england is a journey and a half, so i can kind of understand why he only comes home for important dates."

ashton shrugged.

"tell me about yourself?" the mysterious boy offered. "i don't know much at all."

"i like to keep myself to myself," ashton replied quietly, "i like sports and i'm gay. that's all you need to know."

the other man raised his eyebrows and let out a low laugh. "alright then."

as ashton lit another cigarette for the two of them, he couldn't help but have a part of him miss doing this with luke.

michael would never compare to luke.

no one could.
