joshua

it was friday and i got home from school. my mother was talking to someone on the phone, and i could hear her loud voice in my room. "joshua!" my mom called.

"yes?" i said, going down the stairs.

"you wanna come with me tomorrow? i'm meeting an old friend and she has a daughter around your age. we're eating at a restaurant for lunch." she said.

"eh, i don't see why not." i said and walked back to my room.

the next day, i got ready for the lunch thing. i dressed up and went down to see my mother waiting for me.

"you ready, josh?" she asked. "yup."

we rode the car, she started driving. as we got in the restaurant, my mom and another woman immediately made contact.

"oh, hi!" the other woman said. "hello!" my mom replied.

"uh, i'm going to the bathroom." a girl said, around my age. hmm, maybe she's the girl my mom was talking about. her voice sounds familiar, though.

"this is joshua! he's 17, like haewon." my mom said. i greeted her and bowed a full 50 degrees before sitting down beside my mom.

"hello, joshua. i'm mrs. chae, or hanwon, you can call me whatever you want." she said. "my daughter, haewon, just went in the bathroom. she'll be back in a few minutes."

i took out my phone and started texting my friends. that haewon girl sat across me, saying, "hello, mrs. hong."

i was texting my friends and they won't stop annoying me until i give them a cheat sheet of a game we always play. i searched up the cheat sheet on twitter, but i can't seem to find it...

"joshua, say hi to haewon." my mother said. "oh yeah, sorry." i mumbled under my breath, sure that no one heard that. i looked up from my phone and haewon was across me. she flashed me a smile and waved at me, and of course, i waved back.

"so, i heard you two were classmates." mrs. chae said. i looked up, really? we were? oh, yeah. we are. i think she's the other new girl in our homeroom period that sits in the back row.

"yup..." we both said in unison. i never really noticed her, and coming into the new school, it felt really weird not being swarmed by crazy fangirls who want to date me. i gotta say, i was pretty popular back in my old school. but all the popularity got lower because i announced to everyone that i was moving to cheongdam.

i moved to cheongdam because i got a scholarship, and my mom said to not waste the chance, so i moved there. it was so different, the atmosphere, the vibe, the environment, everything. it was good finally having the chance to escape from all the fangirls.

i never really wanted to date anyone... well, except for one person but she's out of the list since she apparently likes another guy. i've lost contact with her already ever since summer started, though.

now that i'm closer to haewon, i noticed more small features of her face; her bangs, her lips, her eyes, etc. it was actually really attractive, i have to say. to be honest, it kind of looks like she had plastic surgery but i know it's impossible because she's only 17 (and only got a few dollars jk) and it's basically illegal if she did have it.

anyway, the point is that she's really pretty. oh my god, did i just hear someone say she's pretty? i need to stop.

we ordered some food and our moms started catching up with each other. haewon and i would start a conversation every once in a while. it was surprisingly fun and not awkward talking to her. i wanna know her more.

she somehow reminds me of something... or someone. like, someone i met before. eh, maybe i just sat beside her on the bus or something.

wait, maybe she's- nevermind. it's impossible. she looks waaayyy to different...

"have i- nevermind..." i said, but stopped mid-way because... my thought was too stupid to be true.
