haewoni couldn't sleep that night. it's funny how just a small conversation with someone can affect me so much. but i couldn't help it; can i really trust jeonghan?
flashback
"actually... i'm here for another reason." seungcheol told me. "i need to tell you something. something very important."
that made me very curious. "what is it?" i asked, still not opening my eyes.
"don't get fooled by jeonghan's angelic smile." he said. that was enough for my eyes to shoot open, and i looked at him with a shocked and confused expression on my face.
"what?" i asked in confusion.
"i think you'd regret dating jeonghan." he said.
"what- why? aren't you best friends? aren't best friends supposed to support each other especially during love period?" i asked. then suddenly, the realization hit me. "wait... how'd you even know jeonghan confessed to me?"
"let's answer the questions one by one, shall we?" he said playfully, while i just gave him a 'just give me an answer' look. he obviously seemed startled, and answered my questions.
"okay, okay. chill there. anyway, yes, jeonghan and i are best friends. i'm sorry for eavesdropping, but i heard him confess to you last saturday. but-"
"how could you?" i said in disbelief. "what if that was a very private piece of informatio-"
"oh my god, haewon. will you let me finish?" he said.
"ugh, sorry." i said, waving my hands in the air. at this point i was basically desperate for an answer. "continue."
"i heard him confess to you, kind of eavesdropped, but even if i didn't, i'd still know since jeonghan told me after the party." he said.
"oh, okay." i said. "but... why can't i 'trust' jeonghan?"
"you see, i also kinda eavesdropped on your last conversation..." he said, scratching the back of his neck.
"oh my goodness, seungcheol. i cannot believe y-"
"i knew from the start that you were 'that haewon' from elementary to middle school. i just wasn't sure of it, until i overheard you and jeonghan's conversation a few minutes ago." he explained. "do you get me now?"
i was uneasy. what if... what if jisoo knew the truth about me? what would he do? would he get mad at me for lying for such a long time?
"i know what you're thinking, haewon." seungcheol said, as if he was a mind reader. "i assure you that we will never tell jisoo about this. he'd feel really betrayed."
"why would he feel betrayed?" i ask.
"that's for a different conversation, ok?" he said, obviously uneasy about my question.
"okay fine." i said. "but what does this have to do with me not trusting jeonghan?"
"you see, jeonghan's feelings tend to change very quickly..." he said, unsure if he should continue or not. he sighed and continued, "let's start from the start, shall we?"
"when we were in 3rd grade, jeonghan really liked this girl. in 6th grade, he confessed to her and she felt the same way back, but they didn't date for a reason that i don't know."
"suddenly, we noticed that they didn't talk much anymore. jeonghan was acting weird towards her, not like 'in love' weird but instead the opposite." he said.
"kind of like, out of love?" i asked. "yeah, kind of." seungcheol replied.
"when i asked him why, he told me that he liked you." he explained, making me frown. "why're you frowning?"
"because, why would he just leave that poor girl hanging? i'm sure she was very hurt-"
"that's why i'm warning you. i'm afraid the same thing might happen, and he might hurt your feelings." he said.
"oh, and one more thing." he said. "remember when jeonghan told you that jisoo was just letting out his anger at you when he's bullying you?"
"yeah."
"the reason why he's angry is because... he liked that girl as well." he said. "but he never knew that it was jeonghan she liked, he just knew that it was "someone" because that's what the girl told him."
"you see, it's really like history is repeating itself, but now, we're just older." he said. "it's like the same thing is happening again. exactly the same thing."
the end of lunch came, and when i arrived at the classroom, the teacher wasn't there yet. i sat at my seat, putting my head down. but then i realized... "it's really like history is repeating itself." does seungcheol mean...?
end of flashback
i think i'm overreacting, but i realized that... if jisoo and jeonghan liked the same girl back in 3rd grade up until 6th grade... does that mean jisoo likes me? since seungcheol said that the "exact same thing" is happening again. nah, probably not. maybe he means 'most of it'...
