#2 Modus Operandi
“Are you ready to go?” Richard asked.
“Nope, can’t you see I’m all dressed and sitting in your car? I’m obviously not ready. Note the heavy sarcasm.” I retorted. “Well okay,” he laughed.
In an instant, he started driving. For the whole car ride, Richard did not speak at all. It was awkward. Soon, we reached the car park.
“Thank you, personal chauffeur.” I teased him harmlessly.
“You’re welcome, milady.” he replied, smiling.
“Are you feeling better now?” I pressed.
His face fell. Way to ruin his mood, Watson. I thought to myself.
“Lizzy!” I heard the familiar voice in the vicinity. Turning to the source I noticed a figure heading towards me.
“Uh, gotta go.” I added shortly, sensing that he did not like me to talk about it.
My best friend. I have known her since forever. This creature over here actually knows me better than anyone. Yes, better than my mom. From my favourite colour to where I hid my chips, she could write a book on me, literally. Wonder about her social status? She was slightly more popular than me. If you’d ask me to place her.. I guess it would be a tough job. Although she was not from the ‘In-crowd’, she was unsurprisingly popular because she was pretty. She was a tall brunette with big eyes. She was a confident girl who dared to stick up for herself, or her friends.
I was being pinned down on the wall for the gazillionth time this week. She straddled me with her hands against the wall.
“Don’t you dare go near Richard you slut.” Kelly threatened.
“But-“I tried to clarify but as I expected, I was being slapped, hard.
“Stop.” A voice instructed, with courage. Kelly turned towards the voice. I followed her eyes and looked to the left. Joey Haywood.
Kelly put her hands down reluctantly and gave the two of us a dirty look. Being much taller than Kelly, Joey grabbed Kelly by the collar and gave her an I-don’t-like-what-you-did look. Kelly walked away, still having a dirty look but more deflated.
That was how she ‘rescued’ me. I got so used to these threats I wouldn’t flinch or feel a thing now. Anyway we became best friends ever since, we’re still best friends now
“So, what’s up?” She asked. “Nothing,” I replied, still upset by the fact that I’ve said the wrong thing, staring at that injured finger.
In a shrill voice, she asked me concernedly what had happened to my poor finger. “Oh uh, had a pillow fight with Richard last night.” I stated.
“What? Why?” shrilled Joey once again. Wow. Warning: She’s a drama queen.
“Richard broke up with Annabelle. I fought with him so he could feel better being distracted.” I shrugged.
“Congratulations! Elizabeth Watson!” She yelled instantly.
“Huh?” I shot her a questioning look. Joey stared at me intensely.
“You’ve got chance!” She remarked excitedly.
“Ha. Ha. Very funny, Joey.” I said sarcastically.
This is Joey, the drama queen. I have never had a boyfriend in my life. She had always been on a lookout for hot guys for me.
“Liz, you should seriously be worried. It’s your senior year yet you have not had any single boyfriend in your 17 years of your life! Pathetic much? Consider getting someone, if not, you’re going to be alone for Prom.” She ranted.
