Just hearing those two words, Chunhua froze in a state of shock. She was utterly speechless, staring back at him. As she once heard- or many times already, she knew and understand that he like it better going straight to the point, leaving all the useless questions.
'I didnt heard it wrong, right?'
"It didn't matter about the rumor or the reputation. it's about the feeling I've been keeping from you."
She's most likely wanted to curse or kill herself, her heart wanted to explode.
Yangyang didn't know the specific time, about a thing, didn't care how he fell for her. He wanted to erase all the things theyve both been through. No present will happen unless something occurred in the past- in the first place. He was sure that this was the least he could do, that this was the responsible and mature thing to do, be a gentleman.
It was considered as a final decision, maybe it'll turn out well or otherwise. He has decide it all. It will eventually change their lives. Not by a question, these words were from the heart, it would be just enough for him to know what's the reaction, what moves are to be taken. An ending for them or a continuation from what hasnt been finished before.
Yangyang let it out with ease. She would ask herself how and why. It still messed with her mind, she didn't want to go back. She just want to leave in peace, follow her heart, leave the things she never wanted in life but having him in her life almost turn things upside down- maybe it already did.
Played with all her emotions, included with the true feelings, problems. They wanted it to stop. Maybe it was just a way to run away from it but how can they run away from fate and destiny? He just wanted to ask for one thing, and they'll forget it after that.
She stared down at her shoes, kicking a small rock that was under her feet, staying quiet, both of their breathing were barely heard. She cant seem to let out the thoughts in her head, playing scenes in her mind. She didnt even dare to make eye contact with him.
As time flies, it was more not to realize both of them slowly exchanging experiences, saying little by little- random things of the times where they were both unsure of the relationship.
Chunhua found herself asking about the straightforward confession she heard in front of her last time- even eye to eye with each other yet she didn't know what he felt, saying those words so easily thinking that she didn't have any idea what it was. How bold and different he started to act with her now compared to the times back in high school.
"and the homewor- what was it?-"
Cutting her own words with Yangyang's serious but emotionless and innocent look darted towards her as he turns, she felt her heartbeat fastens. It was even hard to think and arrange the words she wanted to say with him directly watching, sending chills all over her body.
"Tell me the answer once you've thought about it."
She went speechless by the time his voice entered her head and the familiar question of his- no, instruction. It was more of a thing to do when he told her the answer. 'No wonder he wanted the answer instead of the translation or meaning.'
He needed the answer, he just wanted to know and he have been waiting all these times. The words that left his mouth was so vivid in her memory that she heard it repeating in her head, and didn't realize that she was already saying the whole sentence. Her head turned to him, "Why was it so long?"
With his hands in his pocket, he shrugged, "Yeah like, why was it so long to give me an answer."
-(a/n and I oop-)
Chunhua slightly hid her face upon hearing that from himself as he made eye contact with her. His soft voice was barely audible. "It's been years, Chunhua."
There was an awkward silence that took over. She just nodded her head slowly in hesitation then gathered her courage to look at him again with a small smile. He was really, serious this time.
"Is it a positive answer?" He simply ask, standing straight- somehow closer than he was in front of her.
Chunhua slowly nodded with a hint of embarrassment, curling her fingers into a fist- wanting to hide away from this world- just embarrassed at how all this started. If she never made any stupid move in the first place, Yangyang wouldn't get into the trouble too.
He shut his eyes for a moment and stare at her with a soft look in his eyes, helding his hand out.
"Okay let's start over." He accidentally said it in English then continued in German, "My name's Yangyang, and I would like to ask you out on a date."
Her eyes widen to hear him changing languages- glad that it not the topic. She understand the simple words but the few last words had her asking herself. Yangyang gathered his courage and repeated it in chinese which had her almost choking, jaw dropped.
But then another brave move to take, she have gotten herself comfortable with the way he easily said. She had a face that didn't show much expression as happy, excited or surprised, it was just as if she have been waiting to be asked.
"You had my own permission." She shrugged, getting along with a cheeky smile- wanted to burst in laughter as if she's on crack.
Her respond was simple and understandable, it showed that she was in the same situation as his. Relieved, at ease. Those two words that can only explain him at the time.
Yangyang then scooted closer to her, slowly and sneakily curl his pinky finger with her. Feeling his soft touch, she looked down and returned his smile, interwining their hands together.
He stared into the view in relief of how smoothly it went, all his worries and crazy, negative thoughts has vanished in a blink of an eye. "I'm sorry. going through this foolish event together, for leaving and everything."
Chunhua stayed quiet for a moment, her lower lip sticking out as a pout. "I felt the same, I hope you'd forgive me too. For not giving a proper and reasonable answer. or respond. "
"It was hell of a ride. " She continued.
Playing with fire, it was the both of them ever since it happened. Another risk they have taken- to make the rumors real. They exchanged smiles naturally.
And so their day continued with a lot of talking- interacting with each other as they walk into the city, barely making it out of their history- erasing the past.
Chunhua brushed aside of all the things she stuffed in her head- to go to work, do some assignments, just to rest for a while. They started to hangout together, eat, learn and study together.
In his free time, Yangyang would come over to the library to both read books and meet her. He would be the man that changes his seat almost wherever she go, one second he was on the book then the next second he stare at her to look at how she do her works without getting tired of it. Sometimes he stood from his seat and go straight to help her arrange the books, taking it out of her hands instead of the cart then playing 'peek and seek' with her between the spaces left in the shelves.
Yangyang always stopped by the library near campus, waiting for her shift to end to spend some time with her. He had his hand to support his chin on the table, looking at her out of boredom.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, he sighed putting down his book. "Are you taking longer?"
Chunhua let out a soft chuckle, smiling to see him accompanying though he cant help but watch and wait. What a whiny boyfriend.
