Chapter 5 - Super Spy

CALLUM MCCOY

For Cal getting up at the smell of food was unusual. So was sleeping next to someone but since the last night he seemed to have changed.

He had not only slid in the bed next to her but had snuggled and had a dreamless sleep for the second time now.

Last night when he had laid her down on his bed, he was ready to take the couch for himself but she had started to shake. All Cal could think of was holding her until she relaxed. Well, after that he had found himself slipping into sleep pretty easy.

His breakfast was usually something he could grab on the way to work. Having breakfast at home? Weird. Especially what with having nothing home.

He gave out a yawn and padded towards the kitchen where he found her deep in thought, her hands around a mug of steaming cup, what he guessed was coffee.

"Morning" he mumbled as he reached for the coffee pot and saw there was nothing in it.

"What, you drank all of it?" He remarked.

She seemed to be back in the present as she looked down at her cup and then him. "Sorry I didn't make one. This is not coffee."

"Is it tea then, ma'am" he asked in a fake British accent and she laughed.

"That's terrible. And yes this is tea but green tea and this is better than coffee. Antioxidants and nutrients and shit, I don't know, my dietician said to switch so, bye-bye regular tea."

He grimaced.

"Hey, don't mock it until you've tried it." She said as she gulped down the tea.

"Is it any good?"

"Good for your health."she remarked.

Cal shook his head "Nuh-uh, I'm getting my own coffee. What are you cooking?"

"Oh." She turned back to the pan. "This is something that I learnt to cook when I was in Mumbai. Umm my roommate taught me this."

"It smells delicious."

"It tastes so too." She said as she tossed it. Two servings were served on a plate and pushed in his hand.

"Taste." He took a bite and moaned. "What is it?"

"It's what we call Poha."

"Where did you even find the stuff to make it?"

"Well there's a grocery store just two blocks down."

"This is amazing."

Cal scarfed down the poha in a matter of seconds and pushed his plate towards her for one more serving.

By the time Cal had picked his plate clean. Mon offered him a mug of steaming hot black coffee.

"You. Are. An. Angel."

"This is the least I can do after everything you're doing for me."

"You're family, Mon. It means I take care of you, no matter what. I'm doing this because it's you and because I want to. I would've said no if I didn't want to."

"Yeah but..."

She turned around.

"But what?"

"But nothing. I gotta go. I-"

"You're not going anywhere."

"I've got a script reading to do. Gotta be there by 10."

"Another one of those rom-coms?"

"This one's an action movie. I get to be an agent."

"FBI?"

"Uh huh. You know I can get you a job into Hollywood. You can be our combat consultant."

"No."

"Will you even consider it?"

"I did and .... No." He gave her a smile.

"Hold on." He walked towards his bedroom and slid back a panel that was hidden behind the books on his bedside table. Pressing his thumb on the fingerprint sensor, he pushed the panel close and turned to walk inside the bathroom.

He heard her padded footsteps following him.

"Super-spy." She muttered and he laughed.

"Thanks." The full length mirror in his bathroom had opened and showed a series of weapons. Pistols and knives lined the wall, magazines at the base, shuriken on side and he lovingly ran his finger down one of his favourite throwing knives. Two briefcases sat on top shelf. He grabbed a gun at the base and held it up to her.

"Nope. I don't do guns."

He smiled, "It's a Taser. Won't shoot bullets, just a high electricity charge, enough to knock the person out."

She peeked into the small wardrobe space.

"What's in that briefcase?"

"Nothing that you need to know."

Will she run away if he told her about his past? Will she run away if he told that he'd feel a certain rush, a high everytime he'd pick that briefcase? Will she run away if he told her that everytime he had picked it up, someone had died?

"Cal. You okay?"

"Awesome. I'm awesome." He murmured a little bitterness seeping from his tone.  Taking a deep breath he gave one last look to the briefcase and closed the door to the airtight space.

"What if someone breaks in and you're in the shower, how will you be able to get to your guns."

"I'm just as good with my hands." He said and waggled his eyebrows.Yeah, she knew exactly what he was hinting at.

She laughed and smacked his shoulder.

"Listen, I just need to talk to Tess. I'll meet you at the studio by 12. Till then, you see anyone that gives you chills you point and shoot and then you run and hide and call for me asap. Press- "

"-2 and you'll be there, I know" she finished

"Good. " he took the Taser from her hand and flung it through the door and on the bed. " Now that we are already here, how about we grab a shower."

She placed her hands on his chest to push him away but instead they trailed upwards and locked behind his neck.

"I can't think of a single reason as to why we can't "
