Chapter 10 - Amendments

MONISHA SINGH

Monisha sat on the floor in one corner holding a book of one of her favorite authors, Larissa Ione as people came in and out of the living room. the cleaners had been more than shocked to see her apartment. But then she didn't owe them any explanation. She was paying them more than enough to clean up the mess and they had been doing a hell of a job.

They had swept the glass shards and had thrown out the couch and the piano. She had made a list of all the books that her brothers had ripped apart. There were almost a hundred books that they had torn apart and she had already put up an order for those. She had also ordered a couch that the website described as plush and warm and trendy. She had called a friend of hers and asked for another piano.

Right at the moment she was so worked up that all she wanted to do was brush her fingers across the ivories but then she couldn't. All she could do was sit and read the same line again and again for almost an hour.

By this time she should have been shouting and cursing Reaver for how stupid he was but then she couldn't concentrate on Reaver and Harvester's love life because she was lost in her own. If you can call it a love life that is.

How could she trust Callum? She had known him for a year or two but never much in close quarters. and spending a night in bed with him wasn't going to give her an insight on how callum was.

You know who he is and you're afraid.  her conscience whispered. Did she really? she asked herself. She didn't even know his real name up until yesterday. Callum. It suited him. He seemed more like a Callum then a Calvin.

She shook her thought away and focused on Reaver. And then her mind went back to Callum. It seemed her mind couldn't just focus on anything except Callum.

"Ma'am" one of the cleaners called out for her. Placing the bookmark back to the page she shut it and placed it on one of the ottoman that had survived the hurricane.

"We have finished up with the cleaning. We can't remove the .. umm..threat. You'll have to colour over it."

"Oh okay. Thanks." she smiled.

She fished out her wallet from her purse and paid the cleaners. "Thanks for everything." she said.

"It's our job ma'am." he said and tipped his hat that had the logo of the cleaning company. She checked the clock on the wall. It had been over four hours and Cal still hadn't called. She began to wonder if anything happened to Cal. He had said he wanted to check out something and that he'd be back in an hour but he still wasn't back.

Did her brothers caught up with him or anything? Did they do something to him? She knew that Cal was capable of taking care of himself unless they caught him offguard.

As the last of the cleaners exited through the door, Monisha locked it and then went ahead to check out the now clean house. She checked all the rooms and was amazed by the work they had done. They had cleaned well and the floors were so polished that she could practically see her reflection in them. She hated that they had to take out the carpets she had placed in every room. They had told her that the carpets were covered in glass shards and that even if they cleaned it, there was a chance that they might miss something and it would cause a problem. She liked having to walk on something soft and warm. The tiles were cold and she felt a shiver. The air in itself was cold today.

Monisha walked over to the library and sat down on the floor. The couch that she had ordered for the living room and the armchairs for the library would probably take a day or two.

She felt so lonely at that moment. Cal hadn't been picking her calls either. She couldn't call anyone apart from Cal. She had even stopped calling Sean because she knew that no matter what she had come between him and his wife and even if Sydney smiled and talked to her, somewhere in her mind, Sydney must hate her.

And she had all the rights to hate her. She was the reason why Sean had left Syd long back and Syd had lost her baby. Mon pressed a hand to her head. How many lives was she going to ruin to have her freedom. She had left her home and years later, her grammy died. She knew not one single person cared about her grammy. If Mon hadn't left she could've been able to take care of her.

She finally made her decision that she would let Cal go too. It was her problem and she wasn't even paying Cal to do this work. He had settled down as an assistant at Tessa's law firm and he was happy with the job. And Tess was paying him but yet there she was calling him at the first sign of her problem and what was worse? Cal had actually come running to her rescue.

She had decided that she would let him go.

Her phone trilled. She didn't answer for a long time and let the call go. At the next minute her phone started to buzz. Text messages. With a sigh she fished out the cell phone from her pocket and her eyes widened.

Text messages kept on coming from an unknown number. And the number of messages kept piling.

This was her brother. She didn't want to deal with them but she knew she had to. When she swiped open her phone lock and read the messages, to say she was shocked was an understatement.

Before the sender could send another message, she called on the number.

With a shaky voice she whispered Hello and what came next was so unexpected, Mon almost thought that she was dreaming.

The call ended and Mon could only just gulp and look at the screen of her phone.

And all she could do was wait.
