He stood at the destroyed gates of his Veterans Centre and sighed. His beloved Centre was damaged but still standing. There was already so much to do to fix this buildings up. The brick wall needed to be rebuilt. New gates were needed. All the windows around the building needed to be replaced with new ones. So much was already needed to be done and Jacob was already exhausted just from looking at it all.

"It's ok daddy. Ella and I will help you fix our home" six year old Ava said, holding her four year old sisters hand and her father's. Jacob looked down at his daughters and smiled at them, "let's go inside and have a look around but we have to be very careful".

-

A few hours later Jacob and his daughters returned back to the bunker. Ellie could see from Jacob's face that things upstairs were not good. "That bad huh?" She asked him. "It's a mess. The rebuild is going to take months" Jacob said as he put Ella down, "looks like we are going to being staying in this bunker for much longer. I've got to speak with Joseph and John, you want me to take the girls?". "No, I've got them. Jayden's sleeping so I'll keep an eye on them now" Ellie smiled.

Jacob approached Ellie and put his hands on her waist, pulling her closer, "you sure? You look very tired". "I'm sure" Ellie said as she placed her hands on his chest, "I'm use to it. I've given birth to three kids. Ava and Ella were the same as well". Jacob smiled at her, before leaning down and pressing his lips against hers. "Almost seven years ago, I made a great choice by choosing you to mother my children. You've given me two beautiful girls and a charming little boy" Jacob said as he pulled away from her.

"Daddy can I come with you? I want to say hello to Uncle John and Uncle Joseph" Ava tugged at his army jacket. "Get your sister as well" Jacob spoke down to his daughter before turning to his wife, "get some rest. The girls are with me". He kissed Ellie on the forehead, grabbed both his daughter's hands and walked out of the bunker room.

"It's a mess up there Joseph. The clean up and rebuild will take at least up to a year or more" Jacob informed his brothers through the webcam. "Yeah Holland Valley is the same as well. Thankfully my Ranch isn't extremely bad. Just a few fix ups but the whole Valley will take over a year to rebuild" John explained.

"So what do you both suggest we do?" Joseph asked his brothers. "We'll work on the rebuild every day but I suggest that we all continue to stay in the bunkers until it's all finished" John suggested and Jacob agreed. Joseph thought about it for a few minutes before agreeing with his brothers as well, "then we should inform our people and get to work first thing in the morning" Joseph said, "let's not waste another day on getting the rebuild started". John and Jacob accepted, then they all closed their webcams and started to gather their people up.

Jacob had his men gather everyone up downstairs in the cafeteria beforehand and now he was finally able to join them and explain everything. "Everyone listen carefully" he got everyone's attention. The whole cafeteria went silent and listened to Jacob. "Tomorrow the rebuild starts. Everyone will be given a tasks to complete. Unfortunately things up there aren't looking great and we could be doing this rebuild for months. Get as much rest as you all can, tomorrow is going to be the first day of complete exhaustion" Jacob informed everyone, "until the rebuild is complete, we'll all continue to live in this bunker so no need to start packing bags or anything. Just gather up enough supplies, water and food. Dismissed".

Everyone started chatting amongst themselves, while scrambling around the cafeteria. Ellie approached Jacob with their son in her arms, "what should I do tomorrow?". Jacob raised his eyebrows at Ellie and shook his head, "absolutely nothing. You've got a new born baby, a toddler and child to look after. I don't want to see you lift a finger other than looking after our children". "But wouldn't it better to have everyone working on the rebuild?" Ellie asked, hoping to convince Jacob to help. "Yes but I'm not letting my wife who gave birth two weeks ago, help with the rebuild" Jacob slightly rose his voice at her, "don't argue with me Ellie. You will not help us tomorrow or for a while, don't make me repeat myself again. Grab the kids and go to our room. I'll bring us all some dinner". Ellie nodded at Jacob, slightly upset about Jacob raising his voice at her. She called out to Ella and Ava and walked out of the cafeteria without saying another word to Jacob.

The rest of the night, Jacob and his family stayed in their room, resting. The man of the family had a lot of work to do tomorrow, so he needed to rest as much as he could. He sat up on the bed, Ava sleeping on his right side, Ella on his left next to her mother and his son slept on his chest. Jacob looked at his kids one by one and smiled to himself. So much had changed for him in the seven years of living in this bunker. He walked into bunker all on his own, no one by his side but he smiled again when he knew that now he'd be walking out of this bunker after the rebuild with a family. A family he truly loved with his whole heart. The family that made him stronger and a changed man.

"Are you still angry at me?" Ellie asked him, bringing him out of his thoughts. He turned his head and looked at her, "you know me Elle, I can't stay angry at you or my kids". "I just want to help you Jacob. My hearts going to break when I see you walk into this room, exhausted as hell" Ellie said. "I know honey but when your brother is a cult leader and makes you the leader of a region, everything looks up at me. I've gotta do this but I am also trying to look after my family and if something terrible happens out there, I don't want my children or my wife around to witness it" Jacob explained. "I know. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get on your nerves earlier. You're already stressed and I didn't help your case by being immature" Ellie apologised and smiled at her husband.

-

"So sir, where do we start?" One of Jacob's men asked him. Jacob looked around and sighed, "I've got no fucking idea. Just start from somewhere and we'll continue from there". "Yes sir" the man said and walked off. It was the first day of the rebuild and Jacob could already feel the exhaustion coming to him. This was going to be a long day and a very very long rebuild.

Later that day, Jacob went back to the bunker. He was exhausted and dirty. He walked into the room and came across the cutest sight he'd ever seen. His family were all cuddled up in bed, sleeping. All of his worries and exhaustion was gone when he looked at how special his family was to him. Jacob walked into the bathroom and jumped straight into the shower.

He leaned his forehead against the shower wall and took in a deep breath. He let the water fall onto his naked body while he tried to relax. Suddenly he felt something touch his back, he turned around and saw Ellie. "See. This is what I meant yesterday. I didn't want to see my husband like this. Do you realise how much it's killing me, seeing you like this?" Ellie asked. "What can I do Elle? I've got no other choice" Jacob turned his whole body towards her, "it's a fucking mess out there". "What's so wrong about living in a bunker for the rest of our lives? We've lived here for almost eight years and not once have we complained about our lifestyle in here" Ellie tried to make a point to Jacob. Their lives in this bunker has been nothing but great and life changing.

Jacob's turned the tap off and jumped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around his waist. "Don't you want your kids to have a life out in the real world? They're just children but when they start growing up, they are going to want to go outside. That's why I have to do this Elle. For our children" Jacob said, cupping her cheeks, "I'd prefer to stay in this bunker with my family forever but our children won't want that when they grow up. They'd want to go out into the real world and explore. We need to give them something to explore".

Ellie sighed and nodded at him, "you're right. I'm sorry I just hate seeing you like this. I want my fun and family orientated husband back". Jacob put his hand on her waist and pulled her in for a hug. He placed his chin on the top of her head and stroked her hair. "I know honey" was all Jacob said then let out a sigh. All he wanted was to be with his family, he hated being away from them for hours and hated it more when he remembered that this was how his life was going to be until the rebuild was complete.
