A little bit of cheer

When one's eyes threaten to tear  sometimes all we need is a little bit of  cheer...

I know it wasn't lady like of me but I gobbled down the food laid before me.My supposed look alike  stared at me as her lapis blue eyes widened in complete fascination of me.Used to glares and disgusted stares,I shook my head at her-wasn't  a wretch like me simply undeserving of such care?

I  was taking this a little bit too far.I should have acted coldly  and shun her kindness but right then when my world continued to tumble down,I had found in her acts what I craved the most-solace.I thus decided to stash my fears in the closet just this once and warm my cold being in the heat of her "sisterly" affection.

"Feeling better now?"The blue  eyed girl asked warmly.Somehow it felt like the question was being directed to my whole entity.

"Yes thank you for the food."I said it more like a question than a statement.The reason being I was still in disbelief.

"You most welcome.Want to play a game?"She asked as she laughed at my shock.

Well since I was stuck in this place and the girl seemed pretty harmless,why not give it a shot?

"Okay so what's the game?"I literally sounded like a frog.Don't blame me!I was never good at making  conversation-every conversation had always been one sided when it came to me.

"The pretend princess game.Since we all beautiful how about we shut all our worries and pretend to be royalty? " She said in her sing song voice.

She was really crazy.Could she not see I was covered all in grime?She eyed me   expectantly and I just shrugged.

"You ain't happy.Why now? Does my presence offend you?"She asked while pouting.

One could almost confuse her with a child were it not for her height.So as to avoid hurting her feelings or nag me about why I was refusing,I gave in.

We rhymed words as royalty and  played mind games.At first I had fake laughed but now she was literally cracking my ribs.I had never laughed this much but as she went on with her sweet mockery I couldn't help myself but laugh.

"Now we got to clean you up right?"She  said as if it was the first time she had noted my filthy state.

Problem was I couldn't get out of the cave.A bath was a lot to ask from mother nature in my case.Eyeing me mischievously she asked if  I was afraid of water

"Not at all I just don't feel like going out."I lied smoothly.

"Who said anything about going out...follow me silver eyes"She said as she started walking deeper into the cave.The cave had a homey feeling to it and it made me yearn...

Funny she was comfortable calling me silver eyes..seems she knew better than to probe on who I really was.

I followed her and it sure surprised me that the cave was spacious.She stopped at some crevices where water seemed to flow and run into an unknown outlet.

"There now,sorry it ain't a lot but atleast it will get you clean."She said politely.If only she knew I had never known of such hospitality all my life.Not wanting to get emotional in front of her I nodded politely.

"I can lend you some clothes after you done..not much of a makeover but it will have to do."

"Thank you."I mumbled incoherently

"No its I who should thank you for the company.I have been alone for a while now...Go clean up now."She said as she turned to walk away.

We knew not each other but there was this sort of kindred feeling that made me feel safe with her.

"Okay two left feet..you better work on your courtesy."I surprised myself as I teased her.She grinned and left me to myself.Well,somehow she acted as family--a most foreign word in my vocabulary.

I could feel a smile playing at my lips as I let myself get soaked with the refreshing water.It was a bittersweet feeling--having a glimpse of what you would never have.Anyway I would make most use of it.Closing my eyes  resolutely, I set to the task at hand-cleaning the filth of me

Basking  a little in glory doesn't hurt as long as it blinds you not.

Athena for once enjoyed the royal ball with other Olympian gods.As always the gods attended for show off and to mark their territories. Things seemed to go according to plan and this made Athena become elated.As ever  she looked gracious in her golden gown-truly she  was worthwhile of all poets' praises.

Her sister Artemis was considered more awe striking in her own right but tonight Athena felt like she was a notch higher.The ball was all glam and smelled of pure royalty.Graciously, Athena calmly exchanged pleasantries with the other gods.Little owl sat on her shoulder perfectly as if he was part and parcel of her.

The gods loved to indulge in anything that derived pleasure.The air was charged with waves of music as the gods in human form danced.They found it amusing taking on human form.Athena was also the god of civilization and this had made the other gods embrace civilization gradually.

"May I have this dance?"A voice that Athena knew too well said as the owner bowed low.

"Well what a pleasant surprise from my favourite uncle."She said sarcastically.

Taking her hand in his,Poseidon led her to the dancing floor.The two rivals danced beautifully each giving the other a calculating look.Poseidon was bitter that Athena was always one step ahead but this time she wouldn't know what hit her or would she?

On the other hand Athena stiffled  a giggle as she let control wash over her.She would enjoy the ball and not even her rival of an uncle would change that.As she twirled one last time she smiled and left Poseidon to his thoughts.
