"I can't believe you ruined it," Lucas sighed as we drove out of the parking lot. "We worked so hard on that!"

"It wasn't that good," I rolled my eyes. "What am I saying? It was actually terrible...anyone could've built a better sandcastle than that."

Riley quietly laughed as Lucas desperately began calling me names, but it didn't faze me.

We were driving to a restaurant for lunch. There was a changing room at the beach, so we cleaned up and almost looked presentable, other than our wet, tangled hair and salt-covered skin.

Lucas parked the car and everyone filed out. I pulled one of Riley's hoodies over my head and hopped out of the car.

I've decided to shove my newfound feelings for Riley into a cold, dark area in my brain. That place included school and apparently every unwanted thing that I'm stuck to deal with.

Riley slid in the booth right next to me. I fidgeted in discomfort as she eyed me up and down.

"Is that mine?"

"Yeah," I felt the heat creeping up my neck. "I took it from your room earlier. Sorry?"

"It's okay," she quickly said, smiling. "It looks nice on you."

I froze and forced a smile before looking away. I flipped through the menu and tried getting her out of my mind as I read but nothing seemed to help.

The waiter came by and we ordered our food. I leaned against Riley's shoulder, smiling to myself as she gently took my hand.

"Lucas, why don't we do that?" Zay asked, looking at us. I raised my eyebrows, waiting for him to go on. "I mean, we're best friends, too! Can I lean on your shoulder?"

Lucas made a face and shoved him away as he tried laying his head on him. "Get off of me, oh my god."

"Wow, you're just letting that happen?" I stifled a laugh as Lucas gave up, allowing Zay to lie on his shoulder.

He threw his hands up in defeat and let out a loud sigh.

Our food came by and we thanked the waiter. We ate and had meaningless conversations like we always do. I looked around at everyone's joyous faces and felt a pang of sadness.

I'm going to miss this so much.

I know that they'll all still be around but without Riley, it just won't be the same. She's the light in every conversation. Whenever someone's sad, she makes it better within seconds. Riley is the one person who brought us all together, so when she's gone, will we even be together?

Our lives are going to completely change without her in it, that's for sure.

I lazily picked at my food. A pit in my stomach emerged and I didn't want to eat the rest.

Farkle and Zay decided to finish it for me after I asked if anyone wanted it. They argued over who got the bigger portion of my sandwich and I rolled my eyes. Once everyone was done, we paid and left the restaurant, hopping into Lucas's car.

Before he dropped everyone off, we decided to hang out again later tonight. Riley and I said goodbye and entered her house, where Auggie was watching his favorite TV show.

"Hey, Auggs," I smiled and kissed his cheek.

His face went red and I giggled.

Riley jumped onto the couch and said I could shower first. I ran up to her room and quickly showered the salt off of my body. I threw on her red hoodie again, missing how comfortable it felt on me. I gazed into the mirror and noticed how the top basically engulfed me.
