r.m.

I broke out into laughter as Farkle accidentally spilled his drink onto Maya.

"I'm so sorry, Maya!" he winced, putting his arms up in defense.

She remained calm on the outside but I could tell how pissed she was. She faked a smile and cleared her throat, standing up from her chair.

"It's okay, Farkle," she said in a steady voice before walking to my room to change.

I raised my eyebrows. "Was not expecting that."

"I'm still scared," he said with wide eyes. "What if she lashes out at me?! Oh my god, I'm gonna die. Plan my funeral right now. I'd like all my money to go to her because if I don't give it to her, she'll find a way to kill me again somehow and-"

"Relax," I rolled my eyes. "When is Smackle coming back?"

"She's coming tomorrow morning," he answered in a cheery voice. "She didn't wanna miss saying goodbye so she decided to fly out a few weeks earlier."

I smiled and felt my heart warm up. "I'm gonna miss her."

Even though she and Zay joined our friend group rather late, they're just as important as everyone else. Without them, our lives felt incomplete. But now that I'm leaving, was there really any point? Our whole friendship is going to be thrown away and it hurt to think about that.

"What about me?" he frowned.

"Yeah, of course, Farkle. You've been my best guy friend since Kindergarten. You're always there for me."

"And you're always there for me," he grinned. "You basically saved my life during Halloween."

I thought back to that night and laughed. He was trying to bob for apples, but he nearly drowned himself because he didn't lift his head. That's the most non-genius thing a genius like him could do.

"Can you take care of Maya?" I quietly asked.

"Of course," he said. After a while, he added, "How are you two doing?"

"Okay," I shrugged. "For now, at least."

"Are you two calling it off when you leave?"

"Yeah," I quietly replied. "But I'll wait for her. Years from now I'll still love her."

"What if you drift?"

"I don't know," I sighed. "It's me and Maya, that just doesn't seem possible."

"I know. You two have the strongest relationship I've ever seen. But hey, our lives are changing."

"Yeah," I mumbled. "I guess drifting apart is inevitable."

"You'll be okay," he reassured me, putting his hand on top of mine. "Both of you find each other again."

I smiled and squeezed his hand.

Farkle has been there no matter what. When I'm in London, I'll feel strange without his presence. History won't be the same. He won't yell out random facts in the middle of class and Farkle Time would cease to exist. I'll miss having someone who's always there to talk to. He knows the right words to say, any time and any place.

I'm worried that I won't find anyone else that I could just talk to as friends. There's no one else in the world that could replace them.

Maya walked back into the room wearing my red hoodie. I smiled at how huge it was on her tiny figure. She sat next to me on the bench and continued eating her food.
