Burzek Goes Undercover

Chapter 1: The Lead

It's been 8 months since Kim called off the engagement. Avoiding Adam isn't an option now that they work in intelligence together, but they get along just fine. They have to, their lives could depend on it one day.

Adam walks in and Kim can't help but stare. Every time she sees him she can't help but think what her life would be like if they were still together. If Adam had been even a little bit excited about their wedding they might be married. She shakes her head and goes back to looking at the evidence. Adam could feel Kim's eyes on him but didn't have the heart to look at them. He hurt her and he knows. Though he's hurting just as much.He goes over and talks to Kevin about the lastest case.

"Any updates since I've been gone?" Adam asks. "Burgess might have a lead but it's going to require some undercover work" Kevin explains. Adam nods, he loved the undercover work and would be more than happy to assist Kim.

Voight and Jay just got back from talking with a CI and who gave them the same name as Kim's lead, David Lynn. Lynn is a well known arms dealer, he typically doesn't pull the trigger but he's definitely a shot caller. Jay explains "he's throwing a huge party and that's our in to get close and catch him doing something dirty."
Kim pipes up " I have an invitation but I need a plus one. " A little to fast, Adam days "I can do it." Kim just looks at him and nods her head.

It's not uncommon for the two of them to work undercover especially since they still have some of that chemistry needed to make a believable couple. Kim can feel her heart hurt a little bit at this thought.
She shakes off the thought and goes back to preparing for the undercover job. Black tie party, fancy dress, place to hide a gun and a phone. She hates carrying clutches during undercover work incase she has to chase the offender.

Adam walks over to Kim," so what do I need to know about this party."
Kim looks up,"black tie so wear something nice, lots of fancy people with fancy guns who probably get spooked easily. I got us in by saying my boyfriend (you) can get your hands on some pretty pieces for the right prices. Lynn likes to show up late and make a grand entrance popping off shots."
Adam just nods,"got it, nice suit and don't get shot."
Kim laughs at this comment,"just meet me back here at 7pm".

She starts to feel nervous knowing they're going to have to pretend to be a couple. Though sometimes it doesn't feel like they're pretending at all....
