Burzek Goes Undercover

Chapter 6: The Next Day

Burgess got to the 21st the next morning before Adam. They haven't talked about what the kiss means and where they stand. She wanted nothing more to bring Adam home with her last night, but she didn't want to rush things. She wanted to go slow this time and make sure they both want the same things. If they're going to get back together she has to know if he'll commit this time.

Adam had a noticeable skip in his step coming into the precinct. It feels like him and Kim are back on track. He wants to talk to her about everything. He's planning on asking her out on a proper date.

"Good morning beautiful ", he says as he kisses his forehead. Surprising Kim.
"Good morning," she responds.
"I know we have somethings to talk about. How about I pick up at 7 and we go to that Mexican reasturant you like? We can eat our weight in burritos and talk," Adam responds.
"Yeah, I'd really like that", Kim responds happily.

"We caught a case. 25 year old DOA. Liesa Moore was gunned down in her apartment outside of Hyde park," Voight says.
"She's an elementary school teacher and her co workers say everyone loves her," Antonio says.
"Ruzek and Atwater comb through her apartment for any clues. Burgess and Antonio talk to the family, member she has an angry ex. Upton and Halstead dump her phone. I want to know who she talks to," Voight adds. The team nods and pair up as directed and head out of the precinct.

"Be safe Darlin," Adam tells Kim.
"You too," she responds with a smile.
Antonio and Kev look at each other smirking.

Once in the car, Kev asks, "so what was that all about?"
"Well she kissed me in the locker room last night. I took your advice and asked her out and she said yes," Adam explains.
"About time man. Don't screw it up this time," Kev responds.
"I'm going to do everything I can not loser her," Adam states.
Kev smiles, he know this is just what those two want and deserve.

"So you and Adam?", Antonio asks.
"Yeah, not sure where it's going yet. I want to try again," Kim replies.
"Just be careful Burgess", Antonio adds.
Kim nods, knowing Antonio is just trying to have her back.

Back at the precinct

"She knew the attacker. There was no signs of forced entry. The answering machine had a message from a guy asking about a date. We have the number to Jay", ruzek and Atwater state.
"Yeah that voicemails number is the same one she's been texting daily. Phone is registered to a Mark Davis. No priors," Halstead and Upton add.
"We didn't get much from the family. They said that everyone loved Liesa. To their knowledge she wasn't seeing anyone seriously or ever had", Burgess and Antonio add.

"Ballistics just came back. The bullet is from the same style of gun her dad owns," Jay says.
"He didn't seem all that upset about his daughter being murdered," Burgess adds.
"Gear up. Let's hit it", Voight says.

"I guess its hard to live with the guilt of killing your own daughter because she dated a guy who didn't meet your standards", Jay states. "No matter how many years on this job, watching someone take their own life will always get to me," Upton says. Jay puts an arm around her shoulder to comfort her. Burgess heads into the locker room with her head down. Kevin hits Adam in the arm and motions to Burgess. Adam nods and heads after her.

"You alright darlin?" Adam asks as he comes up behind her. He runs his hands up and down Kim's arms and kisses her forehead.

"Yeah, it just gets to me. Seeing a man take his own life. Knowing he murdered his own daughter. What kind of man does that?" Kim asks. "I do not like to speak ill of the dead, but he's no man in my book," Adam responds.

Kim nods and leans back into Adam. His arms have always felt like a safe haven to her. She cannot believe that she almost lost this.

"You know I have been thinking, "Kim starts. "Yeah? What about?"Adam says. "we have a lot of memories in this locker room. The kisses, the comforting, the proposal, giving the ring back, kissing again and just being in here with you. In a weird way, it's like the core of our relationship. Our little spot."Kim says more to the air than to Adam. "This is a special place. The good and the bad. Its all happened here," Adam replies.

He notices that Kim is shaking almost as if she is crying. "Hey! It's okay darlin. I'm right here. We can talk about it if you want to," Adam says comfortingly. "No, it's not the case. Reminiscing made me realize that I almost lost you twice. Once I when I gave the ring back and again when I thought Lynn shot you. I do not know where this is going Adam, but I do know I do not want to lose you again," Kim says sobbing. "I'm right here. I am not going anywhere, not anymore," Adam responds.

"I got to finish up some paperwork and then head home to change for my hot date tonight," Kim says giggling. "Oh yeah? I have a hot date tonight too," Adam says with a smirk and kisses her cheek. Kim laughs and pushes him away so she can finish up her work. She is excited for time with Adam outside of the precinct, even if she does love the locker room.
