Chapter 3: Meeting Lynn

Gunshots go off in the background. "Stay here", James orders. He let's go of Kim and pushes Adam beside her. He slams the door and they can hear it lock.

"Are you okay?", Adam asks Kim.
"Yeah I'm good. I'm guessing those shots mean that Lynn is here.", Kim replies.
"I was thinking the same thing. We need to get out of this room. James seems unhinged",Adam adds.
Kim nods and goes to the door. She jiggles the handle and when that doesn't work she slams her body against it.
"Hey! Hey! Let me help", Adam exclaims. He tries numerous times and it still doesn't budge. He scans the room and realizes there's no windows.
"Do we just wait?",Kim asks.
"I don't see any other option," Adam responds.

He starts searching the room for anything they could use a weapon. The only thing he could find is a potted plant. He figures he could probably smash it off a head for a distraction if needed.

"Okay so when they come back in we have to the pitch the guns. It's our only way out of this. Stay close to me so he can't get a gun to you again.", Adam States sternly.
"You don't need to protect me. I don't want you to get shot", Kim responds.
Adam says a little to harshly,"just stay close. You're too important."

He just stares at her. Kim has to look away because she gets the urge to kiss him when he look at her like that. That would not help their situation. She sits on the couch knowing there's nothing left to do but wait for James to come back. She starts to think what would it mean if Adam kissed her and would she let it happen?
The door handle jiggling brings her out of her thoughts. Adam moves next to her as she rises from the couch. She stands and in walks Lynn pointing a rifle at them.

"So James here thinks you two are cops, are you?" He yells. "No man. My girl and I sell glocks on the north side but need a partner. See we have the customers who have the money, we just need more supplies", Adam explains.
Lynn looks at Kim "how did a pretty little thing like you get caught up in all of this?".
"I got expensive taste and my boyfriend does whatever it takes to support my um hobbies", Kim explains. She grabs Adams hand to sell their relationship. She can feel Adam twitch at her touch.
"You must be a lucky man, my girl stays far away from my um hobbies", he says copying Kim's words.
"I am definitely a lucky man," Adam replies looking at Kim. She bites her lip in response.

"So back to business, I want 40% of the profit of we're gonna do this", Lynn states.
"Are you crazy? You'd be making more than us individually. 15%," Adam responds.
"Negotiators,alright. I'll do 30%. That's it or I'm walking away," Lynn says. As grabs the gun on his hip.
Adam looks and Kim and she agreed using her eyes.
"Alright deal. Let's set up a time to see the weapons. Gotta make sure they'll match our clients standards," Adam comments.
"They will for sure. Let's say tomorrow. 1pm behind on the factory off king street," Lynn states.
"Yeah we can do that, see ya then," Kim states.
"You aren't staying to enjoy the party?, Lynn asks. Moving towards Kim.
She holds onto Adams hand tighter," no I wanna have some fun with my man." She winks at him.
"Atta boy! Well you lovebirds enjoy your time", Lynn says.

He opens the door and motions for them to leave. Kim not loosening her grip on Adams hand until they are far away from Lynn. When they walk outside, she lets go of his hand, feeling empty. Adam feels disappointed as she lets go, he liked how she grips his hand tighter when she's nervous.

"That went better than I expected," Kim states. Breaking the silence.
"Yeah almost to nice. We're definitely having the team back us up tomorrow. I just have a bad feeling,"Adam responds.
Kim just nods, "wanna go to mollies?".
"Sure thing." Adam responds.
They make their way into mollies and see Kevin talking with Joe from firehouse 51. They walk up them.
"Hey guys how's it going?," Kim asks.
"Pretty good. You guys good?,Kevin responds.
"Yeah man. Just need some drinks. I'll grab us some beers Kim," Adam responds.

Kim nods and sits down next to Kev making small talk with him and joe when Adam comes back over.
Kim smiles as he hands her beer and takes a sip of it. Moments like these make her wish Adam would've committed to her. That they were here as a couple and they'd go back to her apartment when they have had enough.

Kev notices something is off and leans over to whisper to Burgess,"you okay girl?"
She shakes her head coming out of her thoughts,"Yeah just thinking about things", she responds while sneaking a look at Adam.
"You know he still misses you. You're the one who got away," Kev replies. Some how he always knew what she was thinking. Kim whispered back,"I feel the same way. Working together now, I don't know if it's worth bringing it all up again".
Kev responds with,"your happiness is always worth it".

Kim nods knowing he has a point, Kev has always had her back. Come to think of it , she thinks it's probably because of Adam. Kev had her back during patrol but not like this. Adam is his best friend and Kev knows he'd be heart broken if something happened to her. He looks at burgess as a sister. Adam watches Kev and Kim whisper and wishes he knew what they were talking about. They finish their beers and continue chatting with each other.

"I think I'm gonna head home, it's been a long day. If you wanna stay Adam I'll just take a taxi",Kim states.
"No I'm tired too, I'll take you home", Adam responds. In reality he wasn't ready to leave her yet.
"See you two tomorrow", Kev says. They wave bye to him and Joe.

Adam pulls up to Kim's apartment and she sits their a minute deciding if she wants to invite Adam inside. She decides against it, not wanting to jeopardize their work relationship. Plus voight doesn't like in house dating.
She smiles at Adam," thank you for taking me home. Since my car is at the district, will you take me to work tomorrow ", Kim asks.
"Of course, I'll swing by around 9am", Adam responds.
She nods," sounds good. Goodnight Adam".
"Goodnight Kim," Adam says.

She leans over and kisses his cheek before realizing what she's done. She looks at him and climbs out of the car. Walks to her door, she looks back and waves at him before going inside.

Adam rubs his cheek, he's almost forgot what her touch felt like. Damn he needs to know what Kev said to her at mollies. That'll be tomorrow's issue. He's going to need a good nights sleep if his instincts are right about Lynn.
