It's been two weeks since Kim was discharged from the hospital and she has been going stir crazy. She needs to get back to work but won't be cleared for full duty for another 4 weeks. She can't wait that long. She finally got Adam to stop waiting on her hand and foot. He was so attentive. Of course seeing the person you love get shot, for a second time, tends to break you down. Adam was called in for case and Kim planned on seeing him for lunch but she has other ideas.

She gets to the district while the team is still out at the scene. She picked up everyone's favorite pizzas, chips and drinks. She wants to thank them for everything they have done for her and Adam. She sneaks the food up the back entrance so Platt doesn't see her. She wants it to be a surprise for everyone . She sets everything up in the kitchenette. She texts Adam to tell him she's at this district and to grab Platt when he gets there, saying she needs her for medical paperwork. Adam agrees and says they'll be there in 3mins.

She hears footsteps coming up the steps.
"What kind of paperwork does Burgess need me for now?" Platt asks.
"Not sure Srg. She just said medical," Adam explains.
"Well it better be important," Platt replies.

"I'm starving, we got the case before I got breakfast," Kev tells Jay.
"You gotta keep granola bars in your car for that reason man," Jay says.
"Wait. What smells like pizza?", Antonio asks.
"It better be pizza cause I'm hungry. Who ordered?" Upton says. They reach the top of the stairs and see Kim standing in the doorway smiling .

"Hey darlin what's going?" Adam asks.
"Well I just wanted to thank everyone for all their help these past few weeks. I bought pizza, snacks and drinks for everyone. I figured were due for another family dinner well lunch. Plus I'm sure Kev didn't eat breakfast and is starving," Kim explains.
"You know me so well," Kev says eyeing up the pizza.
"This wasn't necessary. We're family. It's definitely appreciated though," Upton says.
"Dig in!", Kim says.

"So what's the paperwork you need?" Platt asks as she takes a bite.
"There's no paperwork. I just needed to get you up here," Kim explains.
"Sneaky, I like it", Platt says.

Voight pulls Kim into his office.
"The team and I really appreciate this. Like Hailey said it's not necessary. This is what we do for each other," he states.
"I know I just wanted to show my gratitude. I may have alternative motives," Kim starts.
"I'm listening," says hank.
"I know I'm not cleared for active duty for a few more weeks but I'm going stir crazy srg. I can't sit at home anymore. I was thinking that I could come back light duty managing the phones and helping with the tech side of things for a bit," Kim says nervously. She doesn't want to hear him say no.
"Ruzek!", voight yells.
"Yes srg?" Adam responds walking into the office.
"Do you think Kim is ready to come back light duty, honestly ?" Voight asks. Adam is a little shocked, he didn't realize Kim was ready to come back. Though it doesn't surprise him, she did the same thing the first time she was shot.
"Yeah srg. She's good to come back. We need her for sure,"Adam says.
"Alright. Welcome back Kim", voight says happily. He's always liked her and how she knows exactly what she wants and goes for it.

The rest of the team hears voight welcome her back and they all gather around her telling that they're glad the teams back together.

"I can't wait for you to get back to active duty so I can have my partner back. Jay complains about riding shotgun too much," Antonio says slapping jays back.
"No one ever let's me drive," Jay whines.
"I'll be back soon enough and then he can drive Hailey around," Kim says laughing.
"Only on his bad days do I let him drive to cheer him up," hailey teases.

It feels good to be back to work and around her intelligence family. She didn't realize how boring her life is until she was at home all day while everyone else was out solving cases. She took a seat at the extra desk that they use for their secretary when they have one. Though they don't have the best track history with secretaries. Nadia. She wonders if Nadia would be a cop if it wasn't for Yates, she got her life turned around thanks to Erin. Burgess always liked her and her drive. Mouse went to serve another tour, I hope he's safe. Jay gives us updates when he can. I wish I had 1/8th of the tech skills he has. If he comes back, I'm going to ask for some tips. The phone rings bringing her out of her thought.

"Intelligence, officer Burgess", Kim states,
"It's officer Garcia, I have a DOA at 387 west second st. Intelligence is going to want this case", Garcia adds.
"Um okay. I will let them know". Kim responds confused.
Garcia hangs up before Kim can ask any more questions.

"Hey Srg," Kim says knocking on voight a door.
"What's up Kim?," he asks.
"Garcia just called about a DOA. He said you guys are going to want this case," Kim says.
"Did he say why?" He asks.
"No he hung up before I got a chance to ask", she responds.
"Alright then . Text the team the address and we'll roll out," Voight tells her.

She nods and sends out a mass text to the team. Some of them had decided to go outside for their lunch. She gets the whiteboard ready for when they come back and puts on a fresh pot of coffee. By the sounds of, it's going to be a long night.

"Hey srg, guys, just know I'm sorry I'm the one who has to tell you guys about this. I know you would want to investigate it yourself," Garcia says sheepishly. He's not sure how they're going to react.
"Out with it. Who is the Vic?" Voight commands.
"I'm sorry it's Greg Gerwitz," Garcia says not meeting their eyes. Upton is confused.
"Mouse", Jay says as he leans back against the truck. Adam and Kev put a hand on his shoulders in support.
"Who is mouse?", Hailey asks.
"He was our tech guy for a bit. He served with Halstead they were pretty close", Antonio explains.
"Oh I'm so sorry Jay" she says as she walks up to him.
"Srg." Jay starts.
"I know. We're going to find the son of a bitch who did this. He's still family", Voight says.

Authors note: I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I just don't want to end it yet. Plus I wanted to involve a case of someone close to them.
