It was finally the weekend and I could actually relax. I spent the weekend cleaning out my room and reinventing myself. It was time to see new sophomore Kaida!
I took my paycheck and walked to the mall. I bought new shirts and pants and two new pairs of shoes. I felt accomplished with my new style.
I went home and put all my new clothes away. I got a call and it was from Ryan.
"Hello?"
"Hey baby!"
"Hey Ry, what's up?"
"Do you wanna hang out in a little bit? I want to show you something."
"Sure! I got a new outfit so maybe I'll wear it tonight!"
"Can't wait to see it." He had a smirk in his voice.
"Not like that you perv!"
He laughed and said goodbye to me. I hung up and got ready. He texted me to meet him at the tree.
I got on my new shoes and ran to the tree. I knocked and he opened the hidden door. He took my hand and sat me down in the library.
"So what did you want to show me?"
He pulled out a little box and handed it to me.
"It's not my birthday." I giggled.
"I know but I wanted to get you something." He shrugged as he put his hands in his back pockets.
I opened it and it showed a beautiful blue ring.
"Oh wow. Ryan!"
"I wanted to give it to you to promise that I'll always be there. I know it hasn't been the easiest with us recently but I wanted to reassure you that im always gonna be around even when you can't see me."
I got up and hugged him tight. He wrapped his arms around my waist and I looked into his eyes as I backed up.
Something called me to kiss his perfect lips.
I leaned in and kissed him.
I backed up and he looked at me. He leaned in and kissed me harder.
He grabbed at my waist as I kissed him. I soon let go and he looked at me.
"Holy shit." I muttered.
He smirked at my fried brain.
"That was hot." He said in a low raspy tone. I backed away and rubbed my neck.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." I stuttered.
"I enjoyed it." He said grinning.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah." He whispered through an exhale.
I smiled and blushed.
"Well thank you for the gift. I really do appreciate it!" I knitted my brows in genuine happiness.
"Of course. I just wanted to give you something."
"You really didn't have to."
"I know but I wanted to. Can't I spoil my beautiful girlfriend?"
"I mean, I won't complain if you do." I laugh.
"Good." He kisses me once more and I head out the door.
My heart was overwhelmed with joy. I can't believe that he gave this to me. I looked at the ring and I remember what he said "even if you can't see me, just know I'll always be around."
I ran home holding onto my hand with the ring attached.
I walked into the door and my mom looked at me.
"I need you to tell me what's going on." She said sternly. I sat down and told her everything. From Ryan to the lies to the arguments to the ring.
Her face looked confused and scared.
"Well sweetie I thought you'd end up going through normal highschool drama but this is something I never thought I would have to try to talk about."
"What do you mean?" I ask.
She sighed and got up. She reached to the top of the fridge and pulled down a box that we weren't supposed to even look at.
"Sweetie. We don't have a normal family. We come from a line of hunters."
"I know that. Dad always talks about how grandpa shot down a huge deer and how he used to hunt birds."
"That's not entirely true." She replied.
"We are animal hunters that's for sure but when we found out about our hunting history it seems... fake. Sweetie, we come from a line of very very powerful vampire hunters." Her words took me off guard. So they weren't lying. They were telling the truth.
"From what im hearing is dad is gonna have to give you those lessons early." She laid out pictures of vampire heads being held up and images of grandpa and dad fighting.
"You were supposed to start lessons when you turned 18 but I guess dad has to start early." She shrugged.
"So you're telling me. I'm a sixth generation vampire hunter, who just so happens to be dating a vampire who wants to kill me. And my friends are werewolves who are protecting me?"
"Yes sweetie."
"The entire world has gone crazy." I shake my head.
"It's true, Kaida."
"I just... whens dinner gonna be ready?" I ask, avoiding the topic.
"Twenty minutes. Why don't you go talk to your dad?"
"No way." I shook my head and walk to my room.
I called Carter and told her I was sorry.
"I'm sorry I didn't believe you."
"It's okay. How could you? You already had trust issues to begin with and now that Winnie and I both look back, we do realize that we haven't been the best friends that you could have. But now that you know, you aren't leaving our side. Got it?"
"Got it." It was quiet until I said "I know why he wants me."
Carter screamed "what?!!"
"I know why Ryan wants me."
"Why's that?"
"I'm a sixth generation vampire hunter."
