"Just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Jaylee

One week later

The sound of my room door opening causes me to look over in that direction. A nurse walks in, holding a glass of water in one hand and two white pills in the other. Great, my favourite time of the day- not.

I had been here for over a week and I still hadn't figured out what these pills were for, all I know is that they didn't make me feel good. This place didn't make me feel good.

"Here." her voice is monotone as she hands me the glass of water first, followed by the two pills. I roll my eyes, not caring if she saw or not. One by one, I swallow the stupid pills as she watches me closely.

I hand her back the water and she just stares at me suspiciously, almost like I did something wrong. "What? I swallowed the stupid pills, you can get out of my cell now." I say, becoming more and more irritated by the second. I usually wasn't this hostile, but today I was on edge. I was sick of this place.

She huffs, clearly annoyed by my outburst but says nothing. She turns of her heel, and without a single word, she leaves my room, making sure to lock the door. I was now left alone once again.

I was let out only three times of the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the patients go to the depressing cafeteria, where the food is worse than my old middle school, it that's humanly possible.

I felt like I was going insane, but I have only been here for a week.

My room is dark, not pitch dark, but dark due to the pathetic excuse of a light I have on the top of the ceiling. My bed is uncomfortable, since I sleep on a thin mattress laying on a piece of metal. I have one thin pillow and that's it.

All the patients wear the same outside, a dark grey jumpsuit, similar to a prison jumpsuit, but at least it isn't orange. I don't think I could pull that colour off. Kidding, it's not like I care what I look like, I'm sure I'm a mess.

I hear a buzzing sound coming from the loud speaker that's in every patients room, signalling there's an announcement. Sighing, I lift my head up, preparing to hear the bullshit that's about to come from the loudspeaker.

"Attention all patients, dinner is ready. Prepare to be escorted to the cafeteria." a man's voice can be heard over the loudspeaker. I groan, not wanting to force the sad excuse of food they serve here down my throat.

I sit up out of my bed and grab the knock off white vans the asylum provides for us. After slipping them on, I get up and wait by the cell door. Footsteps approach my door and soon the door swings open.

The guard grabs hold of my arm and pulls me out of my room. "Geez, you could be a little less aggressive next time." I mutter, mainly to myself. The guard of course ignores me and escorts me down the hall, towards the cafeteria. I mumble incoherent swear words as he practically throws me inside the double doors.

"Jesus, you know you could be a little less harsh on the new kid." I hear a voice scold the guard. He rolls his eyes. "Get back in line Matthews, or I'll take you to the testing room." the guard spits.

I turn around, noticing a girl with black hair, big brown eyes and pink full lips glaring at the guard. She huffs, grabbing my wrist and pulling me over to the line. Taken back, I hesitantly follow behind her. We reach the line and she lets go of my hand. "Jesus, sorry about him. He's seems to be on his monthly every week." she says, causing me to laugh.

She picks up my wrist, rolling up my sleeve while examining it. "That fucker, he bruised you!" She scoffs, pulling my sleeve back down. "It's fine. Thank you...for that back there." I say, referring to her scolding the guard about being rough with me.

She smiles. "It's no problem. I hate that guy, he's always rough on the newbies." she tells me, as she grabs a tray of food, before grabbing another one and handing it to me. I thank her, taking the tray from her hand.

"Come sit with me and my friends, you look like you could use some company." she says, causing me to smile slightly. "You noticed?" I laugh awkwardly. "I notice every new patient. We don't get them that often." she says, leading the way to her table. I follow her, feeling like the new kid on my first day of high school.

She leads me to the back, where I see to boys sitting at a table with their legs up on the table, talking to one another. The girl, who I still don't know what her name is, walks towards it, grinning at the boys who I presume were the friends she was talking about.

"Marcus, Tyler, this is my new friend..." she trailed off, looking at me. I cleared my throat, realising I didn't even tell her my name. "Oh, Jaylee." I introduced myself. The two boys smile at me, greeting me with hellos as we both sat down opposite them. "My names Ellie by the way." The girl tells me.

At least I made some friends in this hellhole.
