"You'll never make it out of the grounds alive."

Jaylee

"What are we gonna do?" I ask Ethan as we sit in the cold metal chairs, unable to move because of the handcuffs around our wrists. Ethan just starts straight ahead, his jaw clenched. I move my hands around, feeling the handcuffs beginning to hurt. Ethan closes his eyes, deep in thought.

I don't have any idea what time it is, and I can feel my stomach rumbling. It isn't a time to be hungry though, my main focus is what Dr Johnson is going to do to us when he comes back.

Ethan opens his eyes, pinning them on me. "We need to leave now, like right now." he announces. My eyebrows furrow. "Ethan are you crazy? How?" I frantically question him. I look over at Ethan to see him trying to unlock his handcuffs with a bobby pin. Where did he get that?

"Ethan, where did you get that?" I ask him. He chuckles. "I've been in this place for three years and I end up in this room about three times a week. I've learned a thing or two." he tells me. "Got it!" I hear a clinking of metal and Ethan pulls the cuffs off of him.

He smiles successfully at me. "Now let's get you out." he says, hurrying over to my chair. "Hurry, Johnson could come back at anytime." I tell Ethan as he frantically shoves the pin into the cuffs. Ethan grunts frustratingly, trying to get the
cuffs off my hands. "Don't worry, we'll be fine." Ethan assures me, sensing my nervousness. Finally, the lock of the cuffs broke and my wrists were finally free. Ethan sighs in relief, pulling me up out of the chair.

"What are we going to do now? They definitely locked the door." I ask Ethan. "We'll figure it out." he shrugs, looking around the room. He grabs my hand and pulls me down the room, next to the door. My legs felt like jelly.

"Come on." Ethan mumbles, kicking the door but it wouldn't budge. "There has to be something we can unlock the door with." I sigh, my eyes roaming around the room. Ethan and I begin rummaging through the various cabinets in the room, trying to find something useful. Suddenly, we hear the door being unlocked.

Ethan and I look at each other, before he grabs my hand and pulls me back to the chairs. He hands me my cuffs and we put them back on our wrists, not locking them.

The door flies open and Dr Johnson walks in with both nurses behind him. My heart is racing as I try to look as innocent as I could. Ethan stares blankly at the floor, huffing frustratingly, muttering a we were so close.

"Have you learned your lesson yet?" Dr Johnson asks, smiling mischievously at the two of us. Ethan and I keep quiet, glaring at him. "Don't be so sure you'll get out of here." Dr Johnson tells us. "Even if you do manage to escape, you'll never make it out of the grounds alive." he smiles eerily at us.

Ethan tenses beside me, he looks like he wants to throw a punch but composes himself. "I'll be back later to take you to your rooms later. Consider yourselves lucky." and with that he leaves the room, the two nurses trailing behind him.

I finally let out the breath I was holding. Ethan and I both remove our handcuffs and stand up out of the chairs. "That was close." Ethan laughs, breathing out a sigh of relief.
I shake my head while smiling. Only Ethan would laugh at a time like this. God knows what Dr Johnson has put him through. He quickly rushes to the cabinets, continuing his search.

He pulls out a card, smiling triumphantly. "This might work. It's worth a shot though." he says, holding it up. "Are you sure you want to get out of here? Why don't we just wait until Dr Johnson comes back?" I ask Ethan, nervously.

Suddenly, footsteps approach us and we both instantly sprint over to the chairs. "Act natural." Ethan says, cuffing me up. I nod, sitting up. Both of the nurses walk in, coming close to us. "We're here to let you out." the female one tells us. Ethan and I exchange glances. I mentally jump and scream.

"Did you try unlock this?" The male nurse asks. The lock is obviously broken, but I shake my head. He looks at me suspiciously but takes them off anyway. Ethan takes my hand in his, giving it a little squeeze. I look over at Ethan, to see him giving me a soft smile. His eyes lock with mine, and I take in all his features. His dark hair is all messed, his hazel  eyes pour into mine while his pink plump lips form into a small smile.

I find him a little bit attractive. Wait no, scratch that. I find him very attractive.

I got so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even hear him speaking. "Jay, are you listening?" He asks and I snap out of my trance. My cheeks turn red as I look away from him. I can't believe I was staring at him like that. I wouldn't be surprised if I started drooling. "S-Sorry, what did you say?" I ask him.

He laughs, shaking his head at me. "I said," he starts, letting out a little laugh. "Do you want to leave?" He asks me. I then realised we were still in the room, and the nurses were waiting at the door for us. Ethan and I walk over to them, and they both impatiently grab us by the arms and shove us outside the room. "If we ever catch you two trying to escape, things will get ugly. You hear me?" The male nurse bellows as they drag us down the hallway.

The nurses both exchange looks before the male one drags Ethan down another hall. I look back at him, giving him a confused look. He just shrugs his shoulders, turning away from me. They're probably just taking him to his cell.

A bad feeling enters my stomach, but I choose to ignore it.
