I wiped the last table before letting out a deep sigh and stretching my back. "Valery you can head out once that table is done" Maggie yells from the counter and I nod while finishing the table.
I cleared the table taking back the dirty dishes to the kitchen in the back dumping them in the dishwasher before I washed my hands. I dried my hands and hooked my apron in its place before grabbing my bag and waving Maggie off before I walked out of the diner doors.
It was cold and breezy as I walked through the quiet streets making my way home. My pace quickened with the wind and before I knew it I was at my front door. I unlocked the door and the aroma of my mother's food hit my nose. I walked inside and the warmth engulfed me as I hooked my bag on the peg and took my shoes off.
I stretched before a child's laugh hit my ears making me relax. I can do this. I took a deep breath and put a smile on to my face before walking into the living room where my family were all sat talking all wrapped up with each other.
"Hi baby!" I squealed as the tiny four year-old came with a smile barrelling into me. I bent down and my arms wrapped around her before I placed a kiss on her cheek.
"I missed you" I breathed before letting go of Leia and her bright eyes lit up before she gave me a smile.
"She missed her auntie Val too" my sister Ava says from the couch. I picked Leia up and set her on my hip before looking back at my family sprawled across the living room.
A lot has happened in six months.
I moved back to Ohio, well temporarily because I wasn't ready to go back to New York just yet. Also my sister Ava returned home after years away from us. She returned with my four year old niece Leia and also was five months pregnant. Then she gave birth to Milo my nephew.
We were all over the moon with her return. My mom was extremely happy with two grandchildren to spoil and I was happy to spoil them as their auntie too.
"I made you some dinner it's in the kitchen" my mom says.
"I'm not hungry" I say and she looked sad who h made me feel guilty.
"You've barley even ate anything today Valery, this is not good for you. You're becoming weak you need to eat some food" she scolds and I sighed.
"I had breakfast" I argued my point and she shook her head.
"A cup of coffee and a cookie is not enough for the whole day, or good for you" She says and I rolled my eyes.
"Cookie!" Leia exclaims jumping off my lap and her little footsteps echoing in the hall. Tyler jumped up and ran after her because she would get her hands into everything.
"I'm going to bed, I'll see you all tomorrow" I announce before walking upstairs and going into my room.
I opened the door into my dark and cold room, just like every night the memories hit me again and again. I changed out of my work clothes and I to my pyjamas before brushing my hair and then just collapsing in to my bed and under the covers.
I looked at the ceiling which I could barley see but the moonlight shining threw the gaps of my curtains were giving the room a bit of light.
Just like every night everything haunted me.
Shawn's face appeared in my head and I kept reliving those happy moments with him. When we went out on dates or even just laying on the couch and talking. God, I dreamed of him every night and somewhat the future.
I couldn't get rid of him at all, he was what kept me up most of the night. I barley have slept a wink in the last six months. I still haven't gotten over the pain of heartbreak, even with my sister and the kids I still wasn't over it or distracted.
